Overview
What You Will Do
As the Manager of Engineering, you will lead and oversee the Engineering and VDC department, ensuring excellence in project execution, team performance, and technical innovation. You will set strategic direction for the department, support operational efficiency, and drive quality standards in alignment with customer expectations and business goals. This role requires close collaboration with leadership, project management, and field teams to deliver safe, compliant, and cost-effective engineering solutions.
A Typical Day at Prime Controls
- Provide leadership and direction to the Controls and Electrical Engineering team.
- Provide leadership and direction to the VDC team.
- Work with other teams requiring VDC or Engineering work to determine how the teams should work together.
- Oversee engineering deliverables for multiple large-scale industrial automation and I&C projects
- Set and enforce technical standards, workflows, and quality assurance protocols
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Account Managers to align engineering resources with project demands
- Support strategic planning, budgeting, and resource forecasting for the department
- Ensure all engineering work complies with industry codes, safety requirements, and customer specifications
- Participate in client meetings and presentations to provide technical leadership and support business development
What You Will Bring
The Basic
- Professional Engineering license that can be reciprocated to other states.
- 10+ years of engineering experience in a relevant field (e.g., industrial automation, controls, electrical or systems engineering)
- 5+ years in engineering leadership or management roles
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams and complex projects
- Strong knowledge of applicable engineering codes, standards, and best practices
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strategic mindset with strong problem-solving and organizational abilities
The Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field
- Experience in a project-based or construction environment
- Knowledge of instrumentation, PLC/DCS systems, SCADA, and panel design
- Familiarity with resource planning tools and engineering workflow platforms
