Student Worker - Recreation & Wellness ARCC Student Manager (Work-Study or Non-Work Study)Job Description:
This position has been created to provide an experiential learning opportunity for exceptional student leaders within the Recreation and Wellness Department. By synthesizing tasks completed by facility supervisors and facility assistants, we have created a position that will help students cultivate leadership skills that can be utilized throughout their careers as students at the Mount and onward into their post-graduate endeavors.
Below is a brief description of the responsibilities that this position will entail:
Work Schedule
Student managers will work amongst facility supervisors to accommodate shift coverage as needed. These hours are subject to change each semester based on the department's needs. Student managers must be available to work evenings, weekends, and over spring and fall breaks.
Job Responsibilities:
Facility Management and Operations
- Responsible for opening and closing the ARCC.
- Perform routine job duties such as answering phones, completing rounds, and providing customer service to all facility users.
- Monitor the entire facility, report damage, and identify abusers.
- Keep detailed notes regarding the events that occur throughout each shift.
- Collect, record, and file sign-in sheets from the various areas in the ARCC.
- Check reservation and event schedules to assist in setting up recreational equipment.
- Perform light maintenance and cleaning tasks.
- Ability to obtain certification in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR & AED, and Maryland’s Pool Operator Course (Pool Op is TBD). All training is provided through the Recreation and Wellness Department.
- Handle emergency situations and contact 911 or refer to Public Safety as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Facility Assistant Staff Management
- Supervise all student employees who are on duty during each shift. (Facility Assistants and Lifeguards).
- Assist in training Facility Assistants and Lifeguards.
Recreation and Wellness Office Management
- Ability to learn and operate our current membership software to process ARCC memberships.
- Collect money for memberships and instructional programs (Group Exercise, Visitor Passes, etc.)
- Work closely with the department director, assistant directors, and facility supervisors.
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled as a student at Mount St. Mary’s University.
- Applicants are expected to be personable, organized, self-motivated, and team-oriented.
- Applicants should possess skills in time management, problem-solving, and customer service.
Salary and Hours
- Students are paid the current minimum wage for Maryland.
- Students will work a total of twelve (12) hours per week.
