Health Special Risk, Inc. is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our team. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining a modern .NET Web API that serves Owner-Operators, Co-Owners, and Motor Carrier Contractors with Occupational Accident and Passenger Accident insurance products. This position will involve both backend API development and Angular frontend work in a production environment processing real financial transactions.

The pay range for the position is $125,000 to $140,000 depending on experience.

JOB DUTIES:
Backend Development
Design and implement RESTful API endpoints following Clean Architecture principles
Build business logic in service layer, keeping controllers thin and focused.
Work with Entity Framework Core using a database-first approach against existing SQL Server schema.
Implement entity configurations and maintain data access patterns.
Develop and maintain authentication/authorization using JWT Bearer tokens and role-based access.
Integrate with Authorize.NET payment gateway for transaction processing.
Payment and Financial Operations
Maintain payment processing workflows using Authorize.NET Accept.js.
Implement recurring payment automation and batch processing.
Ensure PCI compliance by never logging or storing raw card data.
Handle payment method management, transaction history, and refund processing.
Code Quality and Testing
Write comprehensive unit tests using xUnit and Moq.
Follow established coding standards (C# 13 features, nullable reference types, async/await).
Use dependency injection, primary constructors, and modern .NET patterns.
Participate in code reviews ensuring adherence to project conventions.
API and Integration Work
Build secure endpoints for customer, agent, and admin user personas.
Implement role-based features (impersonation, reporting, user management).
Develop document upload/download functionality with proper security.
Create and maintain certificate generation services.
Frontend Development
Work with Angular 21 to build responsive user interfaces.
Implement customer-facing features (enrollment, profile management, coverage views).
Build administrative interfaces for agents and admins.
Integrate frontend with backend API endpoints.
REQUIREMENTS:
Three plus years of professional software development experience and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
Commitment to security best practices, especially around financial data.
Self-motivated with ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Excellent communication skills for technical discussions and code reviews.
Passion for learning modern .NET features (C# 13, .NET 10).
Experience with Scalar, Swagger, or OpenAPI documentation preferred.
Knowledge of rate limiting and API security preferred.
Experience with Docker or containerization preferred.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines preferred.
Understanding of HIPAA or other regulatory compliance frameworks preferred.
Experience with certificate generation and PDF manipulation preferred.
This position requires handling sensitive financial and personal data. All candidates must demonstrate strong understanding of security principles and data protection best practices.

Pay Range
$125,000 - $140,000 AnnualThe pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
