Position Summary/Purpose
The MEP Student Technician Assistant supports the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) department with day-to-day facilities maintenance activities throughout campus. This hands-on position provides students with practical exposure to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, commercial kitchen equipment, and general facilities operations while working alongside experienced MEP technicians.
Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities/Essential Functions
- Assist MEP technicians with routine maintenance, preventive maintenance, inspections, equipment cleaning, and other basic maintenance activities.
- Support HVAC, electrical, plumbing, commercial kitchen, and other MEP technicians with assigned tasks while working under the direction of qualified staff.
- Transport, stage, organize, and retrieve tools, equipment, parts, filters, and other materials needed for maintenance activities.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of MEP shops, storage areas, mechanical rooms, equipment areas, and work sites.
- Assist with inventory counts, equipment identification, asset information, and basic documentation related to MEP maintenance operations.
- Follow all University and Facilities safety procedures, properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE), and perform additional duties as assigned.
Equipment Used and Responsibility
- Basic hand tools and maintenance equipment as assigned and after proper instruction.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Material-handling equipment such as carts, dollies, and hand trucks.
- University utility carts or vehicles, if authorized.
- Computer and Microsoft Office applications for basic documentation and communication.
Qualifications
- Ability and willingness to perform hands-on physical work and learn basic facilities maintenance practices.
- Interest in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, construction, engineering, facilities management, skilled trades, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions, established safety procedures, and work effectively under the direction of experienced MEP personnel.
- Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to safely lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials up to approximately 50 pounds and work in indoor and outdoor facilities environments.

- Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program.
- Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
- Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
Pay Rate: Minimum Wage
