This posting is for Summer 2027 Co-op Internship opportunities.

IMEG is hiring a Controls Design Co-op in Utica, MI to support engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of control systems. This role works closely with experienced engineers and consultants on active project work while building practical design and documentation skills.

As a co-op intern, you'll gain hands-on experience over 3-12 months, depending on the length of the program, assisting with project documentation, coordination across disciplines, and periodic job site observations. This paid, mentored opportunity supports project goals and client expectations while contributing to industrial and manufacturing work and advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do

· Assist with control-system design work related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards.

· Assist with producing control documents, including IO lists, connection schedules, loop drawings, and schematics.

· Assist with client relations, project design notebooks, and documentation for permanent record files.

· Assist with coordinating design and schedules with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers.

· Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.

· Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check.

· Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information.

· Conduct periodic job site observations and other services as required by the contract services agreement.

What You'll Bring

Required Education

· Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required

Skills and Abilities

· Strong interest in design consulting

· Previous exposure to AutoCAD Electrical software

· Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook

· Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred

· Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
