Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Surgical Tech Apprentice, you will work under the supervision of the surgeon and RN, learning and gaining hands-on experience in keeping the operating room organized, sterile, and ready for safe, efficient surgical procedures.Every day, you will assist in arranging and inventorying sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical cases, passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed throughout the procedure. You will also help prepare and move patients, along with sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment, and rooms between cases.To be successful in this role, you will need a strong willingness to learn, attention to detail, the ability to stay calm and focused in a fast-paced environment, and effective teamwork and communication skills to support the surgical team as you grow in your career.
- Accurately and in a timely manner fills unit dose cart, floor stock, medication orders, and delivers to patient care areas to ensure availability of ordered drugs and supplies. Is knowledgeable in the use and stocking of automated medication cabinets.
- Accurately prepares I.V. admixtures, using sterile technique.
- Accurately and in a timely manner, prepares prescriptions for pharmacist review and dispensing. Accurately compounds specialty items.
- Pre-packages and labels bulk medications for unit dose / unit of use dispensing with computer and associated equipment.
- Checks floor stock and / or pharmacy stock for outdates, overstock, and proper storage on a monthly basis to ensure the use of high-quality medications.
- Demonstrates technical skill level in utilizing a variety of pharmaceutical competencies including, but not limited to, calculations, aseptic technique and cytotoxic drug properties.

We have partnered with Stepful to provide a robust online curriculum that prepares you to earn your Tech in Surgery (TS-C) credential from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) and to perform the full range of Surgical Tech duties.
Our Surgical Tech online classes take 4 months to complete and cover all essential topics such as: Anatomy and Physiology, PeriOperative, PreOperative, IntraOperative, and PostOperative Care, Safety, and Preparation, Surgical Procedures, and more—plus 180 hours of hands-on practice in a skills lab and 125 scrub-in cases. The program also includes test prep and exam-taking strategies. It’s everything you would expect from a surgical tech school, delivered online.

- Classes meet live on Zoom four times a week (M-Th) for 90 minutes each.

Pay Structure: The pay for this position is $23.00/hour with an incremental increase to $25.00 halfway through the program and a final pay of $30.45 upon certification.
Program Start: This apprenticeship will begin on Monday, August 31st

Job Requirements
Required
- Basic Computer skills
- Trade/Technical School Required Enrolled in an approved or accredited education partner
- One year of experience in a surgical setting preferred
- Experience in a specialty field preferred
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Hold a valid state issued ID or Passport required
- Be 18 years of age or older required
- Proficient in spoken and written English required
- Current HealthCare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association within 30 days of hire required
- Healthcare & Operating Room (OR) experience in roles such as: Sterile Processing Tech, Patient Care Tech, Endoscopy/GI Tech, Anesthesia Tech, or Operating Room Aide preferred
- Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time and lifting/moving/positioning patients required
- Comfortable in an OR setting being exposed to large amounts of blood and bodily fluids, handling bloody instruments and dressings, unpleasant smells associated with the OR, etc required
- Sign a Work Agreement acknowledging the value of the clinical training and agreeing to an eighteen (18) month work commitment upon completion of the apprenticeship required
Preferred
- One (1) year of experience in a surgical setting
- Experience in a specialty field
