About Deckorators

Deckorators, a brand of UFP Industries, is a leader in composite decking, railing, and outdoor living products. Our Buffalo-area facility is our flagship manufacturing location for our growing Surestone technology and represents a major investment in the future of the Deckorators brand.

We are looking for a hands-on Facilities Maintenance Technician who takes pride in keeping a facility safe, functional, clean, and ready for the people working in it every day.

Job Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the building, grounds, and general facility infrastructure at our Deckorators Buffalo manufacturing operation.

This is a hands-on role supporting a wide variety of facility needs, including preventative maintenance, basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, general repairs, groundskeeping, and seasonal snow and ice removal.

The ideal candidate is dependable, resourceful, safety-minded, and comfortable tackling different types of maintenance projects throughout the day.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on the building, grounds, facility systems, tools, and equipment.

  • Complete general facility repairs including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and other maintenance needs.

  • Inspect the facility and grounds regularly to identify maintenance or safety concerns before they become larger issues.

  • Respond to facility repair requests and prioritize work based on safety and operational needs.

  • Perform seasonal grounds maintenance as needed.

  • Perform snow and ice removal during winter weather, including clearing sidewalks, entrances, employee access areas, and other designated areas.

  • Apply salt or other approved ice-control materials and operate approved snow-removal equipment as trained.

  • Help ensure entrances, walkways, emergency exits, and other critical areas remain safe and accessible during winter conditions.

  • Use hand tools, power tools, and small equipment safely and appropriately.

  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on facility-related machinery, equipment, and tools.

  • Coordinate or assist with outside contractors when specialized repairs or services are required.

  • Identify required parts, materials, and supplies and assist with ordering and maintaining appropriate inventory.

  • Maintain accurate records of preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and completed work.

  • Follow established safety procedures, including requirements related to hazardous materials, personal protective equipment, and equipment operation.

  • Maintain maintenance areas, tools, and workspaces in a clean, safe, and organized condition.

  • Support facility improvement projects as needed.

  • Communicate maintenance concerns, repair needs, and potential safety issues to management.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of three years of general maintenance, facilities maintenance, building maintenance, or related hands-on experience preferred.

  • Working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general building repair.

  • Experience performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting facility issues.

  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other maintenance equipment.

  • Working knowledge of safe equipment practices and applicable safety procedures.

  • Understanding of hazardous waste and hazardous material handling practices.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple maintenance needs, and follow through on assigned projects.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify potential facility or safety issues.

  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Ability and willingness to perform snow and ice removal as needed during winter weather.

  • Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with general facilities maintenance.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Why Deckorators Buffalo?

  • Join a growing operation at Deckorators' flagship Surestone manufacturing facility.

  • Work in a hands-on role where your work directly impacts the safety and operation of the entire facility.

  • Variety in your day rather than performing the same maintenance task every shift.

  • Opportunity to help maintain and improve a newer manufacturing facility as the operation continues to grow.

  • Be part of the larger UFP Industries organization with opportunities for continued development.
