JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering seeks a part-time Research Assistant in the research group of Dr. Luis F. Ayala H. to start in Fall 2026. The position supports numerical computational modeling of subsurface flow and well performance, mentors PhD students, and contributes to ongoing research projects. This is a temporary, part-time (wage-payroll) hourly appointment.

Job duties

  • Mentoring new PhD students in numerical computational projects.
  • Conducting comprehensive literature reviews in machine learning for subsurface flow and well performance and supporting relevant projects.
  • Any other responsibilities outlined and agreed upon with your research advisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in petroleum engineering, Energy and Mineral Engineering, or a closely related field; Ph.D. (or completion of all doctoral requirements) preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with reservoir simulation and machine learning and the proficient use of corresponding software.
