Description
Your role
You'll be part of our Banking & Finance team, working closely with Gavin Rakoczy on complex distressed and insolvency situations.
The role involves a mix of front-end and back-end R&I work. However, Gavin's team does not handle commercial litigation, with back-end work limited to court applications necessary to support and implement restructuring processes and structures.
We strive to be innovative and have regularly broken ground on complex structures never previously utilised in the Australian market.
The team works closely with the firm's banking, M&A and PE specialists to deliver solutions utilising the full gamut of formal and consensual/informal solvency and turnaround processes.
As an Associate in the team, you will gain exposure to many of Australia's largest and most complex situations, with a focus on:
insolvency, restructuring and workouts (formal and informal);
cross-border situations;
structuring advice;
distressed financing;
opportunistic M&A; and
defensive structuring and contingency planning.
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity however flexibility matters at Allens, so if you are seeking hybrid working or are looking for flexibility in your work, we would be happy to discuss what arrangements would work best for you.
About you
This is an opportunity for:
Someone with an insolvency litigation background who is interested in moving into a more front-end focussed restructuring and transactional role; albeit with continuing back-end work as described in the role.
A front-end Banking & Finance lawyer looking to specialise in restructuring and insolvency.
A lawyer currently working in front-end restructuring and looking to join a top tier firm.
You will have:
2 to 4 years PQE.
Experience as an insolvency or restructuring lawyer, ideally with a mix of back-end and front-end expertise (although this is not critical).
A collaborative mindset and genuine interest in developing expertise in restructuring and insolvency, with a focus on front-end work.
The ability to think strategically and laterally and be innovative.
Commercial curiosity, high work ethic, and a willingness to learn.
