Job Summary
The Director of Building Engineering oversees 92NY’s facilities to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the building and its critical systems. The Director is responsible for building maintenance, the operation and maintenance of all building systems, repairs and upgrades, capital improvements, and compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures.
The Director provides leadership, scheduling, supervision, and day-to-day management of all Building Systems mechanics, ensuring that team members perform in accordance with established job responsibilities, standards, and expectations. The Director also serves as a key point of contact for building-related emergencies and is expected to be available by cell phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as needed.
Job Responsibilities Include
- Provide leadership and oversight of the day-to-day building operations and maintenance function.
- Lead ongoing efforts to optimize building energy efficiency and identify opportunities to improve operational performance.
- Direct building maintenance and repair activities, ensuring facilities and equipment are maintained to appropriate operational and safety standards.
- Develop and implement best practices regarding facilities management and overall building maintenance and repairs
- Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of all building systems including, but not limited to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Implement and schedule preventative maintenance programs for building systems, property and equipment in compliance with applicable local, state and federal codes and regulations.
- Develop, monitor and manage budgets and expenses pertaining to building operations.
- Ensure timely communication to 92NY staff regarding electrical, water and other service interruptions and scheduled shutdowns.
- Oversee technical aspects of RFP’s related to major capital improvements.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures to promote consistency, accountability and safety acroos the team.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and local laws, maintaining current inspections and certifications and an organized, accessible record-management system.
- Support emergency response and evacuation procedures, including assessing building conditions, accounting for operations personnel, coordinating utility shutdowns, and providing operational status reports.
- Ensure a safe, secure and well-functioning environment throughout 92NY's facilities.
- Track all facilities-related service requests to ensure timely resolution and a high level service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage and oversee outside trades, vendors and contractors performing work on the premises.
- Perform other related duties as requested or assigned.
Experience, Education, & Skills Desired
- 10+ years’ experience at a director level overseeing building engineering, maintenance, and construction operations.
- Previous senior leadership experience, preferable in a union environment, required.
- In-depth and current knowledge of DOB, FDNY and DOH code requirements
- In-depth and current knowledge of OSHA regulations and reporting.
- Proven ability managing complex building projects from initial planning and development through implementation, completion and evaluation.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in both Microsoft Office and AutoCad required.
Work Environment & Requirements
40 hours/week.

Compensation Range
$165,000 - $180,000
The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
