Position Overview:
The Engineering Project Manager at Motiva’s Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex leads the planning and execution of projects, coordinating cross-functional teams to deliver capital projects that meet defined scope, schedule, budget, quality, and business objectives. This role develops work plans, resource requirements, cost estimates, timelines, and controls while managing stakeholders, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams throughout project execution. The Engineering Project Manager applies technical and project management expertise to resolve complex issues, improve processes, ensure regulatory and HSSE compliance, and deliver solutions that meet or exceed customer and organizational expectations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning and execution of small to medium-sized capital projects and complex engineering programs from initiation through completion.
- Develop and manage project scope, work plans, schedules, resource requirements, cost estimates, budgets, and project controls.
- Coordinate cross-functional engineering, technical, operational, and business teams to ensure effective project integration and execution.
- Manage day-to-day project activities, track milestones and deliverables, and ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with approved scope.
- Monitor project costs, resources, risks, and performance while ensuring accurate and timely reporting to leadership and stakeholders.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical and project-related issues, providing recommendations and coaching to team members as needed.
- Evaluate technology and technical solutions for complex project challenges and drive appropriate decisions within project scope.
- Establish, implement, and maintain project management standards, processes, tools, and best practices to improve project delivery and efficiency.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, vendors, subcontractors, and project partners, while managing expectations and ensuring satisfaction.
- Ensure projects meet applicable quality, service-level, HSSE, regulatory, and compliance requirements while identifying opportunities for continuous process improvement.
Experience and Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience managing capital projects in a petrochemical, refining or heavy industrial manufacturing environment
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline
- Project Management experience working in a phased project process
- Effective managerial capability
- Outstanding written and oral communication and critical thinking skills
- Familiarity with Process Safety Management – Management of Change
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 10+ years of experience managing capital projects in a petrochemical, refining or heavy industrial manufacturing environment
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
Physical Requirements:
- Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots and hearing protection)
