If you’re the kind of leader who thrives on shaping high‑impact environmental programmes and stepping into senior teams to make an immediate difference, this is one you’ll want to read. As Programme Manager (Environment), you will be brought in to supplement leadership capacity within an Environment directorate at a critical time, supporting complex, high‑profile programmes that directly impact communities, services and long‑term sustainability.

You will be trusted to take ownership from day one – providing clarity, pace and assurance across a varied portfolio. This role offers genuine influence, visibility at senior level and the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy over a short, focused contract.

Your role as Programme Manager (Environment):

•Leading programme and project delivery across key environmental priorities
•Driving business case development and options appraisals to support investment decisions
•Providing senior programme governance, assurance and reporting
•Supporting delivery across private sector housing, regulatory services and waste / street scene
•Bringing structure, momentum and leadership to climate change, parks and open spaces initiatives

You will act as a trusted professional, working closely with senior stakeholders, cutting through complexity and ensuring programmes move from ambition to delivery. Your ability to balance strategic oversight with hands‑on delivery will be critical.

Your previous experience as a Programme Manager (Environment):

•Proven background in programme management within an environmental or place‑based setting
•Strong understanding of local authority or public sector delivery environments
•Demonstrable experience across environmental services, climate or regulatory functions
•Ability to develop robust business cases, delivery plans and governance frameworks
•Confident operating at pace, influencing senior leaders and managing competing priorities

This is a fast‑moving assignment with an immediate need, ideal if you enjoy parachuting into senior environments and adding value quickly. The contract will be reviewed at the end of the initial term, with clear objectives and outcomes set from the outset.
