Job Title:Student Food Service Worker
Location: Northsider
Hours: TBD
Pay: 16.50 per hour
Job Summary:
At the Northsider we love to serve hearty, delicious and nutritious food that makes you think of your favorite neighborhood eateries back home. Located in the Schoenecker Hall North, some campus favorites we serve are the flatbread pizzas, various curries, butternut squash risotto, salmon, and our famous fried chicken wings on Wing Wednesdays!
Join our warm and welcoming team of cooks, chefs, dishwashers and your fellow student workers to learn or apply your skills in food service. Training is provided; food experience is preferred but not required.
A shift at the Northsider can include various roles from the dish room, dining room attendant, food prep/service, and the greeter stand. To be able to meet the needs of the operation, all applicants will be cross trained in all the roles needed for service.
There are advancement opportunities for Student Workers to Student Leads, where you can help lead a service or food prep/cook under the supervision of Sous Chefs and Supervisors.
We operate 6 days of the week, closing on Saturday. From Sunday to Friday our hours of operation are from 7:00 am to 8:30 pm, with shifts falling between the hours of 7:00 am to 9:00 pm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operate the dish room and load/unload the dish machine; maintaining tidiness
- Restock clean dinnerware, flatware, drinkware, serve ware and kitchen equipment
- Prep and cook food for the day or for a future service
- Set up and operate food service stations for meal service, maintaining a clean and spotless serving station
- Keeping the servery areas around the service stations clean; beverage and pantry station counters included
- Greet customers, being attentive to the needs of guests and operate POS system (Cashless; we only provide Dining Plans/Dining Dollars or Credit/Debit transactions)
- Maintain cleanliness of the dining room, including the dining tables and seating
- Comply with MN Department of Health food safety guidelines
- Listen and follow directions under the supervision of Sous Chefs and Supervisors
QUALIFICATIONS
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Move about in a kitchen, servery and dining hall setting
- Tolerate various working conditions: noisy and humid dish room (ear plugs provided by request), cold walk-in coolers and freezers
- Lift and transport materials weighing up to 30 pounds
- Remain standing for extended periods of time
- Retrieve items stored in high and low areas
- Understand and follow verbal and written directions
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
