Your Impact
The primary purpose of the Director, Flex & Off-Shelf Merchandising role is to lead the strategy, planning, and execution of flex and off-shelf merchandising initiatives across the enterprise. This position is responsible for guiding a high-performing team while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including Field Merchants, Core Merchants, Marketing, and Regional Vice Presidents (RVPs).
The Director will ensure product visibility, optimize sales, and enhance customer engagement through innovative flex and off-shelf merchandising solutions. Additionally, this role will drive strategic partnerships with peers in Core Merchandising and Merchandising Execution to improve processes, enhance execution efficiency, and optimize labor utilization. The Director is expected to have a significant positive impact on sales and the customer experience by ensuring the strategic, successful, and timely implementation of all new flex and off-shelf initiatives, while minimizing disruption in stores. By fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, the Director will position the team and organization for sustained success.
What You Will Do
- Develop and execute flex and off-shelf merchandising strategies aligned with overall business objectives and brand guidelines.
- Create actionable recommendations, in partnership with Field Merchants, Core Merchants and RVPs, for localized programs that will deliver incremental value to their markets and to their customer through growth, efficiency or profitability.
- Collaborate with Field Merchants, Core Merchants, RVPs and other store Center of Excellence (COE) leaders to ensure seamless integration of flex and off-shelf merchandising programs into overall Lowe’s strategies.
- Prepare for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) Product Alignment meetings to ensure assigned departmental submissions are aligned with the Merchant, Field Merchant, and RVP support and regional execution playbooks
- Represent the field perspective in executive leadership team product pitch meetings, advocating for local insights and strategies.
- Coordinate Field-led endcaps, side stacks and j-hooks and work with Regional Field Merchants and Core merchandising leaders to develop a comprehensive flex plan for each quarter.
- Create cross-functional project resource plans to reduce customer gaps, market gaps, product assortment gaps, and define project opportunities in partnership with cross-functional teams.
- Lead the analysis of flex and off-shelf merchandising performance through data-driven insights, track KPIs, and provide recommendations to core merchants, field merchandising, and field execution partners for continuous improvement.
- Develop tier-one attachment plays in partnership with the Regional Field Merchants, Marketing, and Promotional Pricing teams.
- Monitor the performance of the off-shelf plan in each region and report on performance to the Regional Field Merchants, Core Merchants, and MVPs in partnership with Finance.
- Create a monthly focus class plan and incorporate flex and off-shelf into the overall plan to better partner with Core Merchandising.
- Gather vendor and manufacturer category data to support cross merchandising opportunities.
- Provide leadership, support market needs, and review and evaluate product/merchandise service quality by making regular visits to Lowes stores to validate the execution of flex and off-shelf merchandising to deliver a consistent customer experience across the organization.
- Share results of impact analyses with the Service teams in the market to demonstrate the positive impact of Merchandising Service work to drive engagement
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of off-shelf and flex analysts, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous learning. Provide strategic guidance and support to empower the team in managing their responsibilities and achieving both personal and organizational goals.
- Monitor and validate the quality of work performed by your team, ensuring that their efforts drive optimal performance and align with overarching merchandising and organizational objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in lieu of education requirement, if applicable
- 10 years of relevant retail and/or merchandising experience
- 8 Years Experience in store operations and/or a deployment role
- 8 Years Experience either selling to or working in a mass, grocery, or home improvement business environment
- 5 years of leadership experience
- 5 Years Experience in product merchandising or selling
- 5 years of experience working closely with senior leadership
- Big-box home improvement retail industry experience
- Experience managing a P&L
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Experience working in a company with revenues in excess of $100 million
Where You’ll Be
- Associates are required to relocate to the Charlotte/Mooresville, NC region to foster collaboration and support.
- The ideal candidate must be willing to work in the office at our Mooresville, NC, location, 5 days per week.
- Most business meetings are planned around the Eastern Time Zone.
