The City of Newberry is seeking an organized, collaborative, and hands-on leader to oversee the daily operations of Champions Park, one of North Central Florida's premier sports complexes. As Park Supervisor, you'll provide leadership for facility operations, athletic field readiness, recreation programs, tournaments, staff development, concessions, and customer service while helping create an exceptional experience for athletes, families, and visitors.

Champions Park is a premier multi-purpose sports complex that hosts local leagues, regional tournaments, and travel sports throughout North Central Florida. Every season, thousands of athletes, coaches, families, and visitors experience the park, making it one of the community's most active and visible destinations.

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License, or ability to obtain
  • High School Diploma
  • Three Years of progressively responsible experience in athletic operations, park or facility management, recreation programming, or a related field.

Preferred

  • Associate degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Business, Public Administration, or a related field
  • Supervisory or lead experience in a parks, recreation, or athletic facility environment
  • Experience with tournament operations, travel sports organizations, and concessions management

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operations of Champions Park while ensuring the facility is safe, clean, well-maintained, and prepared to deliver an exceptional experience for athletes and visitors.
  • Coordinate athletic field readiness, facility maintenance, and operational planning to support practices, games, tournaments, and special events.
  • Support the planning, development, and delivery of recreation programs, camps, and community activities that enhance the Champions Park experience and advance the City's recreation goals.
  • Oversee tournament and event operations by working collaboratively with staff, vendors, service providers, and tournament organizers to ensure seamless execution.
  • Supervise, develop, and support park staff by providing leadership, direction, training, and accountability to achieve operational excellence.
  • Manage concessions operations, inventory, and vendor partnerships while maintaining cleanliness, compliance, and exceptional customer service.
  • Foster a welcoming, customer-focused environment by building positive relationships, resolving concerns professionally, and ensuring a high-quality experience for all park users.
  • Promote continuous improvement by exercising sound judgment, managing competing priorities, and demonstrating the City's core values of Teamwork, Respect, Accountability, Innovation, Leadership, and Superior Service (TRAILS).

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This position combines office and outdoor work and requires regular movement throughout Champions Park to support athletic fields, facilities, tournaments, and special events.

The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Frequently walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and navigate athletic fields and other outdoor recreational areas.
  • Frequently lift and carry equipment, supplies, or materials weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions while supporting athletic events, facility operations, maintenance activities, and large public gatherings.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and remain available to support tournaments, special events, and other operational needs.
