Compensation

Starting at $60,000-$70,000 annually, based on qualifications, knowledge, skills, experience, and demonstrated leadership ability. In addition to base salary, the Store Manager is eligible for performance-based bonus opportunities.

Position Summary

The Store Manager is responsible for the overall success of the Food Matters Market, Morganton, NC store by leading daily operations, developing a high performing team, delivering an exceptional customer experience, and driving sales and profitability. This hands-on leadership role ensures operational excellence, maintains compliance with food safety and employment standards, and fosters a positive workplace culture that reflects the values of Food Matters Market.  If you enjoy leading by example, developing employees, and making a positive impact in your community, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

As Store Manager, you will:

• Lead the day-to-day operations of the store, ensuring an exceptional customer experience.
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, and develop a high-performing team.
• Create employee schedules that support customer service and business needs.
• Maintain merchandising standards, inventory accuracy, pricing, and product quality.
• Drive sales, profitability, labor management, and expense control.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
• Monitor cash handling, inventory controls, and loss prevention practices.
• Build positive relationships with customers, vendors, and the local community.
• Address customer concerns professionally and implement continuous improvements.
• Partner with ownership and leadership to achieve company goals.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

Qualified candidates will have:

• Management experience in retail, grocery, food service, or hospitality (multi-department grocery experience preferred).
• Demonstrated leadership and team development skills.
• Strong communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution abilities.
• Experience with inventory management, merchandising, and operational controls.
• Working knowledge of retail technology, POS systems, inventory software, and scheduling systems.
• Knowledge of food safety practices; ServSafe certification is a plus.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

• Move throughout the store for extended periods.
• Lift and move up to 25 pounds frequently, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Occasionally work in refrigerated or freezer environments.
• Bend, reach, stoop, and perform routine retail activities.

Schedule

This is a full-time exempt leadership position requiring a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional extended hours based on business needs.
