Position Title: Piping Field Operations Manager
The Opportunity:
A highly respected and established mechanical contractor is seeking a hands-on, respected construction professional to lead and elevate the performance of its piping field operations team. This is a highly visible leadership role with direct influence on project execution, workforce effectiveness, productivity, and customer satisfaction across the organization’s commercial construction projects.
The ideal candidate will serve as the operational leader and primary resource for the company’s piping crews, ensuring field personnel have the manpower, materials, tools, information, and support necessary to execute projects successfully. This individual will be entrusted with coordinating workforce deployment, supporting foremen, maintaining communication between project managers and field crews, and driving a more proactive, organized approach to project execution.

The Boss:
This position reports into the Construction leadership team and works closely with the Construction General Manager.
The hiring manager joined the organization as a Construction Project Manager and has spent more than fifteen years growing within the business before assuming responsibility for construction operations. He oversees project managers, field operations, shop operations, and construction execution activities while continuing to support project management efforts.
Known for his deep understanding of the business and long-term commitment to the company, he brings extensive operational experience and a collaborative leadership style. He is supported by an experienced executive team that provides strong leadership, clear direction, and the resources necessary for success.
The Position:
The Piping Field Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all piping installation activities on commercial construction projects while serving as the primary support resource for field personnel.
This role combines workforce leadership, scheduling, field operations management, material coordination, productivity oversight, and communication across multiple project teams. The successful candidate will ensure crews are properly staffed, supplied, and supported while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, productivity, and customer service.
The role requires regular interaction with pipefitters, foremen, project managers, subcontractors, vendors, and union representatives. The Piping Field Operations Manager will lead approximately 8–12 pipefitters while coordinating activities across multiple concurrent projects.
Essential Functions (Other duties may be assigned):
- Lead and manage the piping workforce across multiple commercial construction projects.
- Coordinate manpower planning, crew assignments, and workforce scheduling.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with Local 120 and related labor resources.
- Recruit, hire, and manage pipefitting personnel as business demands require.
- Support field crews by providing timely answers, resources, materials, manpower, and technical assistance.
- Maintain regular communication with foremen to understand project status and workforce needs.
- Coordinate procurement, delivery, tracking, and return of piping materials and equipment.
- Manage piping-related tools and equipment, including maintenance, repair, and replacement.
- Conduct site visits, quality inspections, and productivity reviews.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure successful project execution.
- Participate in project meetings, kickoff meetings, progress reviews, and weekly operational discussions.
- Monitor field productivity and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Oversee piping subcontractors and related project activities.
- Support billing activities associated with piping scopes of work.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and industry training.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience within the commercial construction industry.
- Strong background in piping, pipefitting, plumbing, hydronic systems, or related mechanical trades.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, coordinate, and support field crews.
- Experience managing workforce scheduling and manpower allocation.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction project operations.
- Ability to earn credibility and respect from union tradespeople and field personnel.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong planning and coordination capabilities with a proactive leadership approach.
Education and Experience:
- Experience in commercial piping, mechanical construction, plumbing, pipefitting, or related industries required.
- Prior supervisory, superintendent, foreman, field operations, or construction leadership experience preferred.
- Experience coordinating construction manpower, materials, and project activities preferred.
- Relevant trade training, apprenticeship experience, or construction-related education is beneficial.
