Role Overview
The Settlements Senior Associate is a senior role within the EMEA Settlements function, supporting TP ICAP's Broker settlement services from the Belfast office.
The role is responsible for the timely settlement of securities transactions across multiple markets, whilst acting as a Subject Matter Expert for assigned products, markets or business flows.
In addition to Business As Usual (BAU) responsibilities, the Senior Associate will support business onboarding, migrations, regulatory change, operational transformation initiatives and process improvement activities. The role requires a proactive individual capable of operating independently, resolving complex operational issues and contributing to the continued development of the Settlements function.
The Settlements team supports a broad range of Fixed Income and Cash Equity businesses across EMEA and operates within a matched-principal model where effective settlement execution, risk management and stakeholder engagement are critical.
The team operates coverage between 7am and 9pm to support EMEA and US markets. Participation in a limited shift rota will be required.
Role Responsibilities
Ensure timely matching and settlement of trades through effective exception management.
Investigate and resolve complex settlement issues and trade exceptions.
Act as a Subject Matter Expert for assigned products, markets or business flows.
Manage trade exceptions and validate front office amendments and cancellations where required.
Provide support to brokers and stakeholders on settlement-related matters.
Build effective relationships with brokers, counterparties, custodians and market infrastructures.
Review trading activity, reconciliations and exception queues to ensure timely resolution.
Support business onboarding, migrations, regulatory change and strategic initiatives.
Identify opportunities to improve controls, operational efficiency and settlement performance.
Produce and analyse management information and support root cause investigations.
Support projects, technology initiatives, UAT and post-implementation activities.
Provide coaching and support to Analysts across the team.
Support internal and external audits and ensure adherence to governance requirements.
Fulfil any additional duties required to support the business.
Experience / Competences
Essential
Significant experience within Securities Settlements, Post-Trade Operations or Trade Support functions.
Strong understanding of the securities trade lifecycle and settlement processes.
Experience managing complex settlement events, operational risk scenarios and exception resolution across multiple products and markets.
Knowledge of financial markets and traded instruments.
Experience working with brokers, custodians, counterparties and market infrastructures.
Experience supporting business change, migrations, onboarding activities or strategic initiatives.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrates sound judgement and a proactive approach to risk management.
Ability to operate effectively within a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Experience coaching, supporting or developing colleagues.
Must be legally eligible to work in the UK.
Desired
Experience of Euroclear, CREST, DTC and/or Clearstream.
Knowledge of Corporate Actions processing.
Knowledge of SWIFT messaging.
Experience with TRAX matching or trade affirmation platforms.
Experience supporting UAT, technology change or operational transformation initiatives.
Experience producing or analysing operational MI.
Experience supporting client onboarding, business migrations or operating model transformation initiatives.
