About Us:

The Electronic Systems Research Team are responsible for inventing and developing many of the key technologies that enable Dyson’s innovative new products. Our global team operates across Singapore and the UK, working on both established and emerging product categories. The team use technology to solve problems that others ignore. Our Singapore team of creative engineers is growing, and we want to hear from you if you are interested in joining us to bring pioneering technologies from concept to reality in innovative consumer products,  andproducts and build technology demonstrations and proof of concept product prototypes. The team cover a diverse range of research topics including sensor technology, power electronics, machine learning, embedded systems and embedded software. We work closely with internal Dyson teams, external research institutions and suppliers to consider all aspects of complex products including thermal design, optics, electromagnetics, aero-acoustics, mechanical design, microbiology and compliance. We are looking for inquisitive engineers who can take ownership of technical challenges and drive solutions through to completion to develop the electronic systems for the next generation of Dyson products.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to join our Research team. The role will involve:

  • Leading an electronics research project whilst mentoring graduates and other engineers.
  • Researching emerging technologies through technical papers, patents, supplier engagement and collaboration with external partners.
  • Designing, simulating, building and testing demonstration rigs and prototype systems to assess the feasibility of new technologies and products.
  • Developing power electronic systems including motor drives, battery management systems, power supplies, chargers, heater control systems and other power conversion architectures.
  • Selecting and evaluating power semiconductors, magnetic components and passive components to optimise cost, size, efficiency and performance.
  • Developing simulation models and correlating predicted behaviour against measured laboratory results.
  • Conducting thermal, electrical and electromagnetic analysis to support robust system design.
  • Designing and developing electronic systems with consideration for global safety, compliance and EMC requirements.
  • Creating clear technical reports and presenting design concepts, test results and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Applying a creative, structured approach to develop and assess innovative technical concepts.
  • Working with cross-functional teams to plan project activities and take responsibility for technical delivery.
  • Identifying technical risks, proposing mitigation strategies and sharing lessons learnt to drive continuous improvement.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of our electronics laboratory, ensuring test equipment, tools and components are available to enable efficient research and prototype development.

Key Skills / Experience

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant experience in an electronics industry or research environment.
  • Experience in at least one of:  motor drives, inverters, SMPS, heater control, chargers, battery management systems, power transfer.
  • Good knowledge of power electronic devices, including silicon based IGBTs and MOSFETs and wide bandgap technologies and ability to interpret device datasheets.
  • Experience selecting power electronic components and performing supporting design calculations.
  • Experience using SPICE-based simulation tools such as Simetrix, LTspice or equivalent to model and optimise circuit performance.
  • Schematic capture and PCB design using Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics or other mainstream ECAD tools.
  • Experience of using MATLAB, Python or similar tools for simulation, data acquisition and analysis.
  • Knowledge of compliance and EMC standards in a relevant product area.
  • Experience creating verification and validation plans and executing structured testing activities.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment, including hand soldering of through-hole, SMD packages, PCB rework, prototype build, debugging, testing and validation of electronic systems.
  • Proficient in the use of laboratory equipment to set up experiments and make accurate electrical measurements.
  • Experience of C/C++ programming for embedded systems is desirable.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders from a wide range of technical disciplines.
