Job Description:
Our purpose is to bring together people, energy and markets to power and navigate a changing world. In a time of constant change and possibility we need new talent to pursue commercial opportunities, fuelled by world-class insight and expertise. We’re always striving for more innovative digital solutions, sustainable outcomes and closer collaboration across our company and beyond, and you could be part of that too.
About the Role:
At bp Trading & Shipping (T&S), we connect global energy markets through world-class trading, risk management, analytics and commercial expertise. Our Commodity Risk team plays a critical role in providing independent oversight, insight and challenge to trading activity while partnering with front-office, operations, finance and supply teams. We are looking for a collaborative and analytically minded Commodity Risk Analyst to join our RPTE Global Oil team in London. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about commodity markets and interested in building a long-term career in Commodity Risk. While an understanding of commodity trading and risk management is important, we are equally interested in your curiosity, learning agility, problem-solving capability and ability to work effectively with others.
What you'll do:
Deliver high-quality exposure, P&L, working capital and risk reporting to support business decision-making.
Provide insight into trading activities and help bring transparency to deal structures and financial impacts.
Support the validation of deals, risk positions and new business activities.
Partner closely with traders, commercial analysts, operations, finance and risk teams.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies relating to pricing, volumes, counterparties, exposure and P&L.
Contribute to process improvement, automation and standardisation initiatives across regional and global teams.
Build a strong understanding of commodity risk and the role it plays within a global trading organisation.
What we're looking for:
We welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences. You may be successful in this role if you have:
A degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computing, Data Analytics or a related discipline.
Experience in commodity trading, commodity risk, market risk, trading analytics, commercial analysis or a similar environment.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear insights.
Good understanding of physical and/or derivative commodity markets.
Strong Excel and data analysis capabilities.
Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
A collaborative approach and willingness to learn from others.
The ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with competing priorities
