Description
Under direct supervision of the Mental Health Services Act Coordinator or representative, provide a safe and welcoming environment within the community for any individual impacted by mental health challenges, and to do related work as required.
(The following is used as a partial description and is not restrictive as to duties required.)
{Many of the assignments described below are performed in a training and learning capacity with an incumbent expected to develop the capacity to increasingly work on a more independent basis.}
Assist consumers of Agency services with coordination and implementation of consumer driven recovery goals; engage and assist consumers in obtaining resources in the community utilizing the Milestones’ or Horizon Resource Directory; demonstration of working knowledge of community resources and ability to link consumers to health, social services, and other community agencies; maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, public and private agencies, and community members/groups involve with Milestones, Alpine House, and other outreach community programs and activities; provide outreach and engagement activities that support individual recovery goals; bill for services as trained to do per Agency protocols; enhance and support consumer recovery skills in daily life; provide cultural, educational, social and recreational and vocational activities; actively integrating the principles of wellness and recovery in service delivery; timely completion of outcome and engagement sheets to track consumer data as required; consistent and timely adherence to following program procedures, such as Milestones “Opening and Closing Procedures” and “Daily, Weekly and Ongoing Tasks”; warmly greet and engage community, and educate about the services provided through Trinity County Behavioral Health Services, as well as other resources for those who are uninsured through Medi-Cal; posting announcements and community mailings; maintain a presence. community functions and events with the intention of providing information on wellness and recovery in the community; assist with planning, preparation, and clean-up for events related to wellness and recovery; identify information and resources (network) in local communities which may be of benefit to individuals and families with mental health challenges;. Work with allies to assist and promote active involvement of families in support group activities; plan and provide feedback related to workshops, conferences, and other coordinated efforts to improve community wellness and recovery services; review existing and proposed programs for implementation of partners/caregivers philosophy and participate in the development of new programs and resources; define and strengthen linkages for consumers, including access to services; participate in crisis intervention training and other trainings as required. Attend the Quality Improvement Committee and the Mental Health Advisory Board meetings as requested.
Knowledge of:
- Basic needs and challenges of individuals and families accessing the behavioral health system and/or experiencing mental health challenges.
- Recovery principles, as well as the complex public and/or private agency services available for individuals and families with behavioral health needs.
- Community resources and cultures.
Ability to:
- Perform a variety of clerical tasks such as operating office machinery.
- Learn basic use of word processing, internet, and e-mail.
- Complete necessary documentation to assure participants are linked to necessary resources (i.e. Medi-Cal, CMSP, and job applications).
- Work flexible hours.
- Demonstrate culturally sensitive and appropriate interaction.
- Demonstrate advocacy and teamwork skills.
- Provide billable case management as instructed by the Agency Supervisors.
Training and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience, which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
- One (1) year of experience working in behavioral health services or with a person who has mental health challenges or previous experience with behavioral health services.
Special Requirements:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid California Driver’s License.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; lift and move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment, including computer, telephone, calculator, and copiers; familiarity with the concepts of biofeedback; and drive vehicle for moderate distances in varying weather conditions.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work may be performed in a school, an office environment, and outdoors in mountainous areas with wind, rain, and snow; transporting youth and/or adults to and from events; frequent contact with the public and other staff.
DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
In addition to our everyday duties, we have an added responsibility to help in a declared disaster. Under California law, all public employees are Disaster Service Workers and may be called upon in the event of a disaster. The roles and responsibilities for Disaster Service Workers are authorized by the California Emergency Services Act and are defined in the California Government Code 3100-3102; Labor Code 3211.92(b).
