Description
Volund is building propulsion for America’s next industrial revolution.
We design propulsion systems for cost, agility, and scale, combining advanced automation, precision manufacturing, and rapid iteration to move from prototype to production at unprecedented speed.
Intelligent manufacturing is engineering at scale.
At Volund, engineers operate across the full stack, from concept and simulation to process code and machine execution, ensuring that what is designed can be built and what is built can be scaled.

Intelligent manufacturing is engineering at scale.
At Volund, the people who make the parts operate across the full stack—from model to process to finished hardware—so that what is designed can be built and what is built can be scaled.
Role:
This isn’t a “write the program and hand it to someone else” job. We need a CNC lathe programmer who owns the part from model to finished component: programs it in NX CAM, designs the process and workholding, sets it up, proves it out, runs it, and fixes it when it doesn’t behave. You’ll move fluidly between one-off prototypes and higher-volume production work on the same machines, often in the same week. There is no dedicated setup person or operator standing by—you’re comfortable being the one who makes the chips.
You’ll work on the precision turning components that go into our jet engines, using the same digital thread (NX + Teamcenter) the rest of the factory runs on.
What you’ll do:
A maker. You’ve spent real time on lathes and you’re comfortable in a shop. You can look at a model, decide how to hold it, and make a good part without a lot of hand-holding.
A process owner. You’re equally happy proving out a tricky prototype on Tuesday and refining a production process for volume on Thursday. You think about how the part will actually run when quantities go up.
Resourceful and fast. When something doesn’t work, you dig in—tooling, speeds/feeds, workholding, program—and come back with a solution. You take ownership and finish what you start.
What we’re looking for
Must have:
Salary Range
$120,000 - $160,000 USD
The salary range above is an estimate only with final amount being dependent on a wide variety of factors. All roles include a generous equity package and the following benefits:
As a government contractor, we also take affirmative action to employ and advance qualified women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and protected veterans.
Please note that employment with Volund Manufacturing, Inc. is subject to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Due to the nature of our work, all candidates must be U.S. persons as defined by ITAR (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).
We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities and for sincerely held religious beliefs, in accordance with applicable law. If you require an accommodation to complete the application or interview process, please contact Human Resources at 714-488-7393.

What you’ll do:
- Program complex turning and mill-turn work in Siemens NX CAM, including live tooling, C/Y-axis, and multi-task operations
- Take parts from engineering model and drawing through process planning, tool selection, workholding, setup, prove-out, and first-article
- Design and implement soft jaws, fixtures, and process strategies that work for both prototype speed and production repeatability
- Set up and run the machines yourself—no hand-off
- Optimize programs for quality, tool life, and cycle time as volumes increase
- Troubleshoot in real time and make the changes that get the part in spec
- Generate and maintain the documentation, setup sheets, and process data that keep the digital thread intact
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineers to improve manufacturability as we scale

- Experience spanning prototype and production environments
- U.S. Person status required (ITAR)
- Experience with Inconel, titanium, and other aerospace alloys
- Familiarity with Siemens NX CAD and Teamcenter
- Background in aerospace/defense or high-precision manufacturing
- Experience optimizing processes for higher volume
