As an independent charity, registered in the UK, Ireland and the USA, we leverage our media, legal and data-driven expertise to foster free, fair and informed societies by strengthening information integrity, protecting civil society, and advancing fair work and responsible AI.

The Thomson Reuters Foundation is seeking an experienced corporate partnerships and philanthropy fundraising specialist with a proven track record of securing high-value gifts from the private sector and high-net-worth individuals.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of building strong relationships with donor-advised funds and wealth management teams, alongside developing corporate–charity partnerships, particularly within the legal sector.

The Corporate and Philanthropy Business Development Manager will report to the Head of Philanthropy & Corporate Partnerships, based in London. The role will work closely with the Foundation's Access to Law team and involve occasional travel to North America and Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal-sector business development: Lead the development and implementation of business development strategies to secure high-value income from the legal sector.
  • Annual income target: Secure more than £1m annually, including a target of £300,000 annually from the legal sector, drawing on the Foundation’s sector-leading relationships through TrustLaw, the world’s largest global pro bono network.
  • Philanthropic fundraising: Secure new six-figure gifts from philanthropists.
  • Proposals and partnership packages: Lead the development of high-quality proposals and partnership packages for the legal sector and donor-advised funds.
  • Relationship development: Build effective relationships with key decision-makers in the legal sector and banks’ wealth management teams.
  • Internal collaboration: Work with the Business Development and Access to Law teams to maximise fundraising potential and identify engagement opportunities for target donors.
  • External representation: Represent the Foundation at industry events in London, North America and Europe.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 10 years’ experience in corporate fundraising, with a proven track record of securing six-figure gifts from the private sector and/or high-net-worth individuals.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills, supported by strong financial acumen.
  • Strong knowledge of high-value fundraising and established relationships with donor-advised funds and/or wealth management teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience securing funding from the legal sector.
  • Experience using Salesforce.
  • Relevant professional training in major-gift fundraising, donor stewardship or corporate partnership development.
  • Understanding of the legal sector’s approach to pro bono work, corporate responsibility and charitable giving, including the motivations behind law firms’ philanthropic partnerships.
  • A proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
