The Oracle Applications Database Administrator is responsible for supporting the technical stack that underpins the Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) environment, including both the application tier and the associated database infrastructure. Key responsibilities include the installation, configuration, patching, cloning, workflow administration, and backup and recovery of the EBS environment. This position serves as a specialized bridge role that is more focused than an enterprise-wide Database Administrator function, with responsibilities limited to the Oracle EBS environment rather than the organization's entire database landscape. While the scope is specific to EBS, the role requires a strong foundation in database administration and technical expertise.
The chance to do something meaningful, to challenge yourself, to be a part of change in an industry, to influence change doesn’t come around every day.
Responsibilities
EBS Application and Database Systems Operations
+ Administer and support the Oracle EBS application stack and its underlying database, including installation, patching, cloning, and related infrastructure supporting the EBS environment.
+ Monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize the EBS technical environment across both the application and database tiers to ensure reliability, performance, and security.
Platform Administration and Technical Configuration
+ Execute EBS patching using Applications DBA (AD) utilities (adpatch/adop or current equivalent): patch testing, application, and post-patch validation.
+ Perform multi-node EBS cloning for environment refreshes, upgrade testing, and disaster-recovery testing cycles.
+ Own Concurrent Manager configuration and tuning, Request Set/Request Group administration, and Workflow/Notification Mailer troubleshooting beyond first-line triage.
Security, Compliance, and Continuity
+ Support security hardening, vulnerability remediation, and patch management for the EBS technical stack.
+ Own RMAN backup configuration and execution for the EBS database, including periodic recovery testing; configure and maintain Data Guard (or equivalent disaster-recovery replication) for the EBS environment to support organizational resiliency.
Operational Support
+ Serve as a technical escalation resource for EBS infrastructure and application-stack issues beyond Oracle EBS Systems Administrator scope.
+ Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures for EBS technical administration and HA/DR runbooks.
+ Collaborate with the Oracle EBS Systems Administrator, business users, vendors, and other IT teams to support operational needs and EBS-related projects.
+ Participate in an on-call rotation and support critical incidents, scheduled maintenance activities (patching, cloning), and project implementations, primarily during evening and/or weekend windows scheduled in advance whenever possible.
Qualifications
Required:
Education and Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
+ 4+ years of progressive Oracle DBA experience, including at least 2 years specifically in an EBS Applications DBA capacity, within a medium to large organization.
+ Experience supporting mission-critical production systems.
Technical Qualifications
+ Hands-on experience with AD utilities, RMAN, and Data Guard.
+ Working SQL and PL/SQL skills sufficient for troubleshooting and workflow diagnostics.
+ Experience with enterprise backup and recovery solutions and business continuity/disaster recovery programs.
+ Experience supporting security initiatives including patch management and vulnerability remediation for the EBS technical stack.
+ Experience with scripting or automation to support patching, cloning, or monitoring processes.
Professional Qualifications
+ Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
+ Effective organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills, including planning for scheduled off-hours change windows and on-call responsibilities.
+ Strong written, verbal, documentation, and presentation skills; ability to communicate technical risk and maintenance-window impact to non-technical stakeholders.
+ Ability to support multiple initiatives and adapt to changing business priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Oracle certification (OCP or equivalent).
+ Experience with EBS version upgrades (e.g., 12.1 to 12.2) or Oracle Database version upgrades.
+ Exposure to cloud-hosted Oracle environments (OCI, AWS RDS for Oracle, or Azure).
+ Experience with an ITSM platform and operational frameworks such as ITIL, Agile, or COBIT.
