Salary Range: $20-22 USD/ Hour

About the Role

Are you looking to build practical accounting experience while learning about the utilities industry? SEMCO is looking for an Accounting Intern to join our team for Summer 2027!

In this role, you’ll support the Accounting team across a variety of projects, tasks, and initiatives. You’ll gain exposure to multiple areas of accounting and financial analysis, collaborate with teams across the business, and develop practical experience applying what you’ve learned in the classroom.

What You’ll Do

• Gain hands-on experience across areas of accounting, including accounts payable, regulatory accounting, and fixed asset accounting.
• Assist with creating schedules and supporting materials for regulatory filings.
• Research accounting-related topics, including best practices, new accounting pronouncements, and emerging technologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Operations, and Construction.
• Support process improvement initiatives by identifying and documenting opportunities to improve efficiency.
• Assist with additional projects and administrative activities that support the Accounting team.

What You’ll Bring

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of accounting principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Positive attitude, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to learn.
• Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s licence.
• Ability to work from our Port Huron corporate office 40 hours per week during the work term.
