Job Summary
Key Responsibilities
- Test, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair transformers, voltage regulators, circuit breakers, protective relays, switchgear, instrument transformers, and related power distribution equipment.
- Conduct diagnostic testing on high-, medium-, and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and test results.
- Prepare accurate technical reports documenting testing, maintenance, repairs, and equipment conditions.
- Safely use hand tools, pneumatic tools, cutting torches, and specialized electrical test equipment.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment after completing required training.
- Follow company safety and environmental procedures, customer-site requirements, and personal protective equipment standards.
- Properly handle and dispose of oils, solvents, and other chemicals used during service work.
- Maintain assigned tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Travel throughout the Emerald Transformer service territory, including overnight and extended stays.
- Work overtime, evenings, weekends, call-in assignments, and emergency response hours when required.
- Work effectively with customers, field crews, facility associates, and other Emerald Transformer operations.
- Perform facility-based work when field assignments are unavailable.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to complete required safety, equipment, material-handling, crane, and respirator training.
- Experience testing, maintaining, or repairing transformers or related electrical distribution equipment is preferred.
- Experience with electrical test equipment, including TTR, Megger, winding resistance, power factor, relay, breaker, or high-potential test equipment, is preferred.
- Experience using Omicron or Vanguard Instruments equipment is preferred.
- Welding experience is preferred.
- Relevant electrical, mechanical, industrial maintenance, utility, military, technical school, or field service experience will also be considered
- Ability to read equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and written work instructions.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, test equipment, and material-handling equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and troubleshooting ability.
- Ability to accurately document test results and completed work.
- Effective teamwork, communication, and customer-service skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently and work a flexible schedule.
- Ability to perform heavy physical work, including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally and more than 50 pounds frequently.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors around electrical equipment, moving machinery, chemicals, oils, elevated work areas, and extreme temperatures.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when necessary.
