Emergency DVM – Richmond, VA

A growing veterinary emergency and specialty practice is seeking an Emergency Veterinarian to join a collaborative and supportive team. This role is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys emergency medicine, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is committed to providing high-quality care to urgent and critically ill patients. The emergency team is responsible for triaging, stabilizing, diagnosing, and treating emergent cases while working closely with other veterinary departments and support staff. Responsibilities

• Triage, evaluate, stabilize, and treat emergency and critical patients.
• Perform thorough physical examinations and develop appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans.
• Manage urgent and life-threatening medical conditions in a timely and effective manner.
• Communicate clearly with pet families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and prognosis.
• Collaborate with veterinary technicians, assistants, client care teams, and specialty departments.
• Utilize diagnostic equipment and available medical resources to support patient care.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records.
• Participate in case discussions, rounds, continuing education, and other professional development activities.
• Support effective patient flow and case management within the emergency department.
• Practice according to established medical standards, protocols, and veterinary ethics.
• Contribute to a positive, respectful, and collaborative team culture.

 

Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited university.
• Active veterinary license in good standing in the applicable state.
• Clinical experience in emergency medicine or general practice, or completion of a rotating or specialty internship.
• Ability to quickly assess and respond to unplanned and emergent medical situations.
• Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and client communication skills.
• Commitment to providing a high standard of veterinary medicine and patient care.
