About the Role
DayOne is building its flagship hyperscale data center campus in Lahti, on a former industrial site in Kiveriö. The campus is designed to use Finland's naturally cool climate for free cooling, with air-cooled chillers that remove the need for freshwater cooling. Join the Lahti team early and help shape how a campus of this scale is built, commissioned, and run.
As an Electrical Engineering Manager, you oversee the electrical infrastructure and systems of our hyperscale data centres. This role ensures the continuous and efficient operation of electrical systems, upholds high safety and compliance standards. You will lead and mentor a team of electrical engineers and technicians, ensuring the delivery of critical electrical services 24/7.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include
Electrical System Management
- Oversee the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems within the data centres.
- Ensure all electrical infrastructure, including power distribution units, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), generators, and switchgear, operate reliably and efficiently.
- Implement and maintain electrical safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with shift teams to ensure seamless 24/7 coverage and effective handovers between shifts.
- Conduct regular training sessions and performance evaluations to enhance team capabilities and productivity.
Maintenance and Upgrades
- Plan and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance activities, ensuring all electrical equipment and systems are serviced according to manufacturer and company standards.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for electrical maintenance and upgrade projects, ensuring minimal impact on operations.
Technical Support
- Provide technical expertise and support for electrical systems, including troubleshooting and resolving complex electrical issues.
- Collaborate with other engineering and operations teams to ensure integrated and efficient system performance.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all electrical operations comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation and records to support compliance audits and certifications.
Strategic Initiatives
- Support the Critical Services Manager in developing and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance electrical system performance and support business growth.
- Participate in budget planning and cost management activities to ensure operational efficiency and financial performance.
Requirements
Technical Skills
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably within a data centre or critical infrastructure environment, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of electrical infrastructure, including power distribution, UPS systems, generators, and switchgear, and the ability to manage complex electrical challenges.
- Proven experience in managing technical teams and 24/7 operations.
Soft Skills
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Finnish is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with high integrity and a collaborative working style.
