The Senior Manager, Business Controls Owner serves as the operational governance authority for Hagerty's new insurance technology platform, ensuring that business processes are well-controlled, risks are identified and mitigated, and the platform operates in alignment with key risk and foundational business practices and key controls, regulatory, audit, and internal policy requirements. This individual contributor role sits at the intersection of insurance operations, technology, and enterprise risk, and serves as the primary business accountability point for controls design, documentation, testing, and ongoing monitoring across the platform lifecycle.
What you’ll do
Controls Design and Framework Ownership
Define, document, and own the end-to-end business controls [MB2.1] framework for the insurance platform, including process-level controls across policy administration, billing, underwriting, and claims workflows. Establish control objectives, control activities, and key risk indicators aligned to business outcomes.
Process Governance
Develop and maintain process documentation standards, including workflows, RACI assignments, and process narratives. Partner with operations and technology teams to ensure process controls are embedded at the point of design, not retrofitted after deployment.
Risk and Control Assessment
Lead risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs) [MB3.1] [JB3.2] for platform-impacted business processes. Identify control gaps, assess residual risk, and drive remediation plans to closure with clear ownership and timelines.
Audit and Regulatory Readiness
Serve as the primary business liaison for internal audit, external audit, and regulatory examinations related to platform operations. Ensure evidence packages are complete, narratives are clear, and control testing documentation meets audit standards.
Change Control and Platform Governance
Participate in the platform change management process, evaluating proposed changes for control impact and ensuring the controls inventory is updated to reflect evolving system capabilities and process flows.
Stakeholder Partnership
Collaborate closely with IT, compliance, finance, and insurance operations leadership to align on control priorities, escalate emerging risks, and ensure controls remain practical and proportionate to business needs.
