Description
Flodesk is recognized in the Inc 5000 as one of the world's fastest-growing email marketing companies, built to help entrepreneurs sell online and design emails that people love to get. We're committed to giving small businesses simple and intuitive tools that help them grow, nurture, and monetize their email list.
We’re a remote-first company headquartered in San Francisco with a globally distributed team, including in-person hubs in Da Nang (Vietnam), Barcelona (Spain), and Menlo Park (California). Our team reflects the diversity and creativity of the people we serve. Join our mission to level the playing field for small business owners through good design.
About The Opportunity
The Data Team at Flodesk is part of our Engineering Team, based in our Da Nang office. We serve as the single source of truth for the company, providing data-driven insights that empower teams across Product, Marketing, Finance, and Engineering.
As a Data Analyst, you’ll play a crucial role in translating raw data into meaningful insights, optimizing data pipelines, and maintaining a self-service BI ecosystem that enables teams to explore and understand data effectively.
What you will do
- Financial metrics and modeling: Own the dbt models behind Flodesk’s financial metrics, from MRR and its movements to billings, collected payments, retention, LTV, and CAC. Build them from Recurly billing data so they hold up through real-world cases like plan changes, failed payments, and refunds, and so the same month shows the same number in every report.
- Revenue and cost reconciliation: Reconcile billings, collected payments, and MRR against the billing system, payment processors, and accounting records, and explain any gap in terms Finance can act on. Do the same for costs, so unit economics like affiliate commissions rest on numbers everyone trusts.
- Finance partnership: Work directly with our Finance Director and leadership on metric definitions, cohort and pricing analysis, and recurring reporting. When a definition is genuinely open (say, how to count a member who converts and cancels in the same month), lay out the options and trade-offs, help Finance decide, and document the decision so it sticks. Partner with Marketing on acquisition spend and attribution for CAC.
- Beyond finance: Support other domains when needs arise, such as product and growth analytics, bringing the same rigor to questions about feature adoption, funnels, and retention.
- AI-first analytics: Do most of your building and analysis through AI agents rather than by hand. You’ll direct agents to write and review dbt models, run investigations, and build dashboards, and you’ll own the result: checking the logic, testing edge cases, and catching what the agent got wrong.
- Self-serve analytics, rebuilt: We’re replacing traditional BI with a self-hosted portal of Claude-built dashboards, plus an analytics MCP that answers ad hoc questions in plain language. You’ll build and maintain the finance dashboards, and curate the metric definitions, model metadata, and guardrails that keep MCP answers accurate.
What you need to be successful
- Analytics experience, ideally in subscription or SaaS finance.
- A fast learner with an open mind. Prior experience with subscription metrics such as MRR, LTV/CAC, or billing reconciliation is welcome but not required.
- Advanced SQL and data modeling. You pick the right grain for each table and get snapshot and point-in-time logic right. dbt experience is a strong plus (our stack is dbt on Redshift and ClickHouse), and Python is a plus.
- Experience doing analytics work through AI agents (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) is highly desirable, and building an analytics MCP server or semantic layer for LLM use even more so. Either way, you have the judgment to check an agent’s output rather than trust it.
- Rigor and healthy skepticism. When numbers don’t tie, you keep digging until you can explain the gap, and you’re upfront about caveats and definitional choices instead of presenting one tidy number.
- Clear written and spoken English. You can explain a metric definition to Finance without jargon, and write documentation that people (and agents) can rely on.
