Description
Full-Time | 19.00-$20.00 per hour
STAR, Inc. is seeking a dependable, hands-on Facilities Maintenance Assistant to help maintain our residential and program locations throughout lower Fairfield County.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys fixing things, solving everyday maintenance issues, and takes pride in keeping buildings safe, clean, and well maintained. We are looking for someone with solid general handyman skills who can handle a variety of routine repairs and maintenance projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and minor repairs at STAR facilities
- Complete basic carpentry, painting, patching, and repair work
- Handle minor plumbing and fixture repairs
- Assemble, install, and repair furniture, shelving, hardware, and equipment
- Replace light bulbs, fixtures, locks, handles, and other basic building components
- Assist with preventative maintenance and routine property inspections
- Help maintain the appearance and safety of STAR properties
- Respond to maintenance requests and complete work in a timely manner
- Assist the Facilities team with other projects as needed
What We're Looking For
- General handyman and maintenance experience
- Comfortable using common hand and power tools
- Ability to troubleshoot and complete basic repairs independently
- Reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple work requests
- Good communication skills and a positive, respectful approach
- Valid driver's license and reliable driving record
- Ability to travel between STAR locations in the Fairfield County area
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting, bending, climbing ladders, and working indoors and outdoors
Experience in building maintenance, property maintenance, construction, or a related field is helpful, but we are most interested in finding someone who is dependable, capable, and knows how to fix things.
Compensation
$19.00-20.00 per hour

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One to three years of general building maintenance, facilities, construction, or related experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of basic carpentry, painting, plumbing and general building repairs
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and perform physical tasks, including bending, climbing ladders, kneeling, working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Valid Drivers License with Acceptable driving record
- Experience working in a nonprofit, healthcare, human services or residential setting a plus but not required.
Schedule:
40 hours a week Monday-Friday
