Job Summary: 

The tax internship position within the Corporate Finance and Accounting division of The Standard involves a wide range of duties and activities. The goal of the internship is to experience the life of a tax accountant and gain skills to prepare the student for a successful career in taxation. The demand for tax professionals is growing due to several factors, so there are numerous opportunities for long-term success in a tax career.  


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Support the preparation of quarterly and year-end income tax provision calculations, including ASC 740 reporting and analysis.
  • Prepare federal and state income tax returns, tax adjustment workpapers, and quarterly tax-related filings and analyses.
  • Perform tax account reconciliations, process tax-related payments, and prepare journal entries to support accurate financial reporting. 
  • Assist with the preparation of indirect tax filings and workpapers, including premium tax, sales and use tax, and property tax requirements.
  • Support tax withholding and compliance activities, including deposits and interactions with federal and state taxing authorities.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives while gaining exposure to tax leadership, strategic projects, and executive-level discussions.

During the duration of the internship the candidate will be assigned to one manager to oversee their day-to-day work, however, there may be opportunities to work with several different teams in the division. The work will be conducted in an all-virtual remote environment.   


Qualifications: 

  • Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students throughout the duration of the internship. Rising sophomores, juniors, seniors, and students pursuing advanced degrees are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be available to extend the summer internship in a part-time capacity from late August or early September through October 15. Depending on business needs and mutual interest, there may also be an opportunity to continue part-time during the academic year.
  • Preferred majors in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Strong analytical skills as demonstrated by previous work experience, and/or course of study. 
  • Experience working with MSOffice suite including Excel, Teams, Outlook. Experience in AI tools preferred.

Compensation:

  • Individual pay rates will be determined based upon current student status (i.e. Sophomore, Junior, Senior).
