Description

Staff Civil or Environmental Engineer – Kellogg, Idaho

Maul Foster & Alongi, Inc. (MFA) is seeking a full-time Civil or Environmental Engineer who is eager to lean into generalist work, environmental investigation and remediation design, civil site development design, brownfield redevelopment, and stormwater system and treatment design, while gaining hands-on field experience. This role is ideal for someone ready to explore the consulting world and excited to spend time in the field, especially during the summer season. This position will have a large focus on supporting the MFA Team in assisting the Coeur d'Alene Trust with investigation and remediation of historical mine and mill sites and other areas where mine-related impacts are present within the Bunker Hill Superfund Site.

  1. As our Staff Civil or Environmental Engineer, you will...

play a critical role in both the field and office, developing a well-rounded skill set while supporting the delivery of environmental projects. Expect to spend substantial time onsite, collecting soil, groundwater, and surface water samples, and supporting drilling oversight. Fieldwork will be particularly intensive during the summer months, with extended time spent outdoors working directly with contractors, clients, and regulators to keep projects on track.

Back in the office, you'll prepare quality assurance project plans to guide future remedial investigations, translate your field observations into investigation reports, prepare design drawings using Civil 3D, prepare stormwater models, conduct third-party design review, provide ARAR support, cost estimating, data interpretation, and report preparation. You'll work on projects at the Bunker Hill Superfund Site and other projects throughout the Pacific Northwest that may include civil site design for renewable fuel facilities, in-water sediment remediation at ports, stormwater treatment design at industrial sites, and marine infrastructure upgrades.

In collaboration with licensed engineers and senior team members, you'll prepare engineering designs and specifications, assist with project bidding and contract development, and support the preparation of proposals, scopes, schedules, and budgets. You'll assist our environmental team in characterizing mine impacted sites and provide review support for remedial action designs. You'll incorporate quality control reviews into your work and build experience engaging with clients and regulatory agencies.

This position is a great opportunity to grow as an engineer by applying your knowledge in real-world settings, balancing intensive fieldwork with technical development, and gaining valuable experience in both independent work and team collaboration.

  1. To thrive in this role, you must have...
  • BS in civil engineering or environmental engineering.
  • EIT Certification or the ability to obtain certification within six months.
  • Interest in working in the consulting environment on projects involving site development design, brownfield redevelopment, environmental remediation design, hydraulics and hydrology, and stormwater system and treatment design.
  • Sound technical capabilities and organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as report writing will be part of your regular tasks.
  • Aptitude for using AutoCAD design software, specifically Civil 3D.
  • Ability to drive and willingness to travel occasionally to regional projects.
  • Ability to perform physical duties including, but not limited to, lifting, use of respiratory equipment and other protective gear, and traversing rough terrain.
  • Ability to effectively work as a team member, both individually and collaboratively, delivering a project successfully to a client within the scope, schedule, budget.
