IT Technical Account Manager
Birmingham, Alabama | DataPerk
Where Technology Meets Client Relationships
For 25 years, DataPerk has helped businesses leverage technology to work smarter, operate securely, and achieve their goals. We are a collaborative, client-focused Managed Service Provider, and we are excited to add an IT Technical Account Manager to our Birmingham team. This is a unique role designed to bridge the gap between sales, technology, and service delivery.
We need someone who can combine that relationship expertise with a strong technical understanding of IT and MSP services. We are looking for someone who can sit across the table from a business owner or executive, understand their goals and challenges, and determine which technology solutions will best support them. The ideal candidate will have a strong IT background preferably with experience working for an MSP along with account management, consulting, or other client-facing experience.
In 2026, DataPerk was recognized as a Top 3 Best Place to Work by the Birmingham Business Journal, reflecting the collaborative culture we work hard to build.
What You'll Do

- Learn each client's business, goals, technology environment, and challenges.
- Assess client needs and recommend the appropriate DataPerk products and services.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of DataPerk's managed IT, cybersecurity, cloud, networking, Microsoft 365, and other technology solutions.
- Conduct client meetings, onsite visits, business reviews, and technology presentations.
- Confidently communicate technical concepts and recommendations to business owners, executives, and non-technical decision-makers.
- Partner with Account Managers during discovery, solution development, proposals, and sales opportunities.
- Serve as the technical bridge between Sales, Project Management, Service, Engineering, and the client.
- Play a key role in onboarding new clients, helping gather technical information, establish expectations, and transition clients successfully into service.
- Help identify technology gaps, risks, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Assist with project scoping and ensure technical requirements are clearly communicated to internal teams.
- Support proposals, estimates, account reviews, CRM documentation, and account health initiatives.
- Represent DataPerk professionally at client meetings, community events, and business organizations.
What We're Looking For
- Strong IT technical background and practical understanding of business technology environments.
- MSP experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in account management, consulting, technical account management, sales engineering, customer success, or another client-facing technology role.
- Understanding of networking, Microsoft 365, cloud services, cybersecurity, endpoints, and managed IT services.
- Ability to assess a client's needs and translate them into appropriate technology solutions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Confidence working directly with business owners, executives, and technical professionals.
- Strong organization, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
- Experience with CRM and/or ticketing/PSA systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
Technical Skills
- Troubleshoot and resolve common Windows workstation and user issues, including software problems, connectivity issues, printer problems, and basic system configuration.
- Create and manage user accounts, reset passwords, manage permissions, and troubleshoot common Microsoft 365/Entra ID user issues.
- Troubleshoot basic network connectivity issues, including IP configuration, Wi-Fi, DNS, DHCP, and connectivity to network resources.
- Perform basic Microsoft 365 troubleshooting, including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, email, authentication, and account access issues.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot workstations, peripherals, printers, and common business applications.
- Use an IT ticketing/PSA system to document issues, troubleshoot problems, communicate with users, and properly escalate issues when necessary.
- Follow standard troubleshooting methodology to diagnose a problem, identify the likely cause, implement a solution, and verify the issue is resolved.
- Read and interpret basic technical information such as ticket notes, system alerts, network diagrams, device information, and technical recommendations.
- Communicate technical issues and solutions clearly to both end users and technical staff, translating between business needs and technical requirements.
