Help us create a better future, quicker

SP Energy Networks (SPEN) are working to achieve network targets set by the Scottish and UK Government as part of our journey to Net Zero. Our focus is on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. SPEN is building a dynamic network to meet the changing demands for electricity and increasingly, renewable electricity – safely, securely and sustainably in the communities we serve.

Role

The Project Manager is accountable for the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of major capital investment, construction and customer connections projects across the SP Manweb licence area.

The postholder will manage projects throughout the delivery lifecycle, from development handover and mobilisation through construction, commissioning, operational handover and close-out. They will ensure that agreed outputs are delivered safely, on time, within approved budgets and to the required quality, regulatory and technical standards.

The Project Manager will ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, construction and engineering requirements, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, ScottishPower Safety Rules, company policies and relevant licence and regulatory obligations.

What you’ll be doing

The role is responsible for managing multidisciplinary project teams comprising design, engineering, operations, commercial, finance, quality, environmental, construction and commissioning resources. The postholder will provide direction, develop accountabilities and ensure that project risks, dependencies and interfaces are managed.

The Project Manager will lead the commercial and contract management of appointed contractors and service partners. Contracting arrangements may include NEC3, NEC4, FIDIC, design and construct contracts, framework agreements and other forms of contract used by the business.

The postholder will maintain effective project governance, including programme control, cost forecasting, risk and opportunity management, change control, reporting, assurance and escalation. They will identify and implement opportunities to improve capital efficiency whilst protecting safety, quality, operational performance and required project outputs.

From time to time, the Project Manager may act on behalf of the Senior Project Manager. The postholder may also represent SP Energy Networks at internal governance forums, stakeholder meetings and relevant industry working groups.

This is a key role within the SPM 132kV Networks team, offering responsibility for complex and strategically important infrastructure projects together with opportunities for continued professional and leadership development.

What you’ll bring

Coordinate the approved project scope and established objectives whilst maintaining governance arrangements, delivery strategies, roles and responsibilities.

Develop, maintain and control integrated project programmes and delivery plans, budgets, forecasts, risk registers, change controls and resource plans.

Manage project expenditure, forecasts, commitments and change within the postholder’s delegated financial and contractual authority.

Ensure that projects deliver their approved outputs, milestones and regulatory commitments whilst maximising capital efficiency and whole-life value.

Identify, assess, manage and escalate project risks, opportunities, issues and emerging threats, taking account of their potential impact on future delivery.

Maintain accurate and timely project reporting, providing clear information on safety, programme,

cost, risk, quality, outputs and key decisions.
