Freelance Swimwear Technical Designer

Location: NYC
Schedule: Remote, with occasional in-person fittings
Type: Freelance / Month-to-Month Contract

A growing NYC apparel company is looking for an experienced Swimwear Technical Designer to join the team on a freelance, month-to-month basis. This role will primarily be remote, with occasional trips into NYC required for fittings and product reviews.

The company currently does not have a dedicated Technical Design team, so there is an opportunity for the right person to take on additional work and potentially expand their responsibilities as the business grows.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain tech packs for swimwear styles
• Create and review specs, measurements, and grading
• Provide detailed fit and construction comments
• Attend in-person fittings and communicate fit adjustments
• Work closely with design, product development, and factories
• Review samples and ensure products meet fit and quality standards
• Communicate revisions and technical updates to factories
• Help establish and maintain technical design processes

Qualifications

• 3+ years of technical design experience, preferably in swimwear
• Strong understanding of fit, construction, specs, and grading
• Experience creating and managing tech packs
• Strong communication skills with factories and vendors
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment
• Must be available to come into NYC for fittings as needed
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple styles and deadlines
