We help reimagine the performance of buildings to serve people, places, and the planet, and we are looking for a Controls Systems Engineer to support that mission through high-quality design, configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting work.
Role Overview
In this role, you will be responsible for the design, configuration, and operation of complete building control systems, including fire, security, and other low voltage control sub-systems such as lighting, nurse call, and data networks. You will work closely with field teams, customers, consultants, subcontractors, and internal partners to deliver solutions that meet project requirements with the right balance of quality, timeliness, safety, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and configure complete building control systems in alignment with project specifications and contract documents.
- Develop software programs, sequences of operation, and related control logic to support proper system performance.
- Prepare flow diagrams, bill of material, network layouts, electrical schematics, drawings, and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
- Coordinate the selection, ordering, and delivery of materials for assigned projects, including factory-mounted equipment and schedule support.
- Assist with loading and commissioning system and network-level controllers, validating system functionality, and troubleshooting issues with subcontractors and other trades.
- Provide field change information and support the development of as-built drawings and software updates.
- Communicate job progress, technical issues, and design details to management, customers, consultants, field teams, and subcontractors.
- Assist with site-specific training for owners and operators on the total building control system.
- Participate in release meetings, support value engineering efforts, and provide work direction to Systems Design Assistants when needed.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety standards and safe work practices at all times.
How You Will Do It
- Own your work with accountability, accuracy, and integrity, keeping project quality, schedule, and safety at the center of every decision.
- Stay close to the work by coordinating directly with field teams, subcontractors, and customers to remove obstacles and keep projects moving.
- Use careful problem-solving and clear communication to improve system performance, resolve issues early, and support continuous improvement.
- Work as one team by sharing information openly, respecting different perspectives, and helping the broader project team succeed.
- Translate project requirements into practical design documents, schedules, and commissioning activities that can be executed efficiently in the field.
- Follow established engineering and safety processes while maintaining a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and validation.
Qualifications
- Mechanical or electrical engineering degree, or equivalent experience in a related technical field.
- Experience with building low voltage systems, building control systems, or closely related HVAC and construction environments.
- Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience and communicate clearly with customers and project partners.
- Advanced computer skills, including computer-based drafting tools and the ability to produce accurate technical documentation.
- Working knowledge of commissioning, troubleshooting, and field support activities for building systems.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and other building subsystems.
- Experience integrating low voltage building sub-systems using industry protocols such as LON, BacNet, or Modbus.
- Understanding of mechanical drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, and IP networking for building automation systems.
- Experience using Visio or similar drafting and documentation tools.
