Position Overview

The Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) is seeking an experienced law enforcement professional to serve as a Basic Peace Officer Academy Instructor at the CLEET facility in Ada, Oklahoma.

This position is responsible for delivering professional, high-quality instruction to Basic Peace Officer Academy cadets in both classroom and skills-based training environments. The Academy Instructor will have a primary instructional emphasis in Firearms while also supporting additional academy curriculum, practical exercises, testing, physical training, and cadet development. Additional continuing education responsibilities may be assigned, including developing curriculum and lesson plans and delivering training based on the instructor’s qualifications, certifications, and skills-based experience.

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong instructional ability, professionalism, leadership, and the ability to effectively develop and mentor future Oklahoma peace officers while upholding CLEET’s core values of Integrity, Excellence, and Customer Service.

Essential Functions

  • Deliver classroom and skills-based instruction within the CLEET Basic Peace Officer Academy in accordance with approved curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional standards.
  • Serve as a primary Firearms instructor working directly with the FA Lead to assist with the coordination and delivery of FA training throughout academy cycles.
  • Instruct additional Basic Peace Officer Academy courses based upon certification, qualifications, experience, and academy needs.
  • Conduct practical exercises, scenario-based training, skills evaluations, remediation, and other academy training activities.
  • Assist with physical training and the overall physical development of academy cadets.
  • Evaluate cadet performance and provide professional, objective, and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain instructional quality and ensure assigned courses are delivered in accordance with CLEET curriculum, lesson plans, Oklahoma statutes, administrative rules, and agency policy.
  • Assist in the development, review, and revision of curriculum, lesson plans, presentations, practical exercises, and other instructional materials.
  • Maintain accurate instructional and training documentation as required by CLEET.
  • Assist academy leadership with cadet accountability, conduct, discipline, and adherence to academy standards.
  • Participate in academy testing, remediation, inspections, graduations, and other academy activities as assigned.
  • Maintain required instructor certifications and remain current on applicable law enforcement practices, training methodologies, and instructional standards.
  • Support CLEET continuing education and other agency training programs as assigned.
  • Represent CLEET professionally when interacting with cadets, law enforcement agencies, instructors, and other stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • Current Oklahoma CLEET Peace Officer Certification in good standing.
  • Current CLEET Firearms Instructor certification.
  • Basic Instructor Development (BID) certification.
  • Documented experience as a CLEET-certified instructor.
  • Demonstrated experience providing classroom and/or skills-based law enforcement instruction.
  • Strong public speaking, presentation, and instructional skills.
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate, instruct, and evaluate firearms skills.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Live within 60 miles of the Ada campus or be willing to relocate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of full-time law enforcement experience.
  • Additional CLEET skills instructor certifications.
  • Experience instructing within a basic law enforcement academy or other structured law enforcement training program.
  • Experience developing law enforcement curriculum, lesson plans, practical exercises, or scenario-based training.
  • Experience evaluating and remediating student performance in classroom and skills-based training environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Oklahoma peace officer certification standards, CLEET administrative rules, and applicable statutory requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of firearms principles, instructional methodologies, safety practices, and skills evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of adult learning principles and effective instructional techniques.
  • Ability to effectively instruct and engage cadets with varying levels of law enforcement experience and ability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver professional classroom presentations and practical training exercises.
  • Ability to objectively evaluate cadet performance and provide effective remediation when necessary.
  • Ability to maintain control, professionalism, and safety during physically demanding and scenario-based training.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an academy instructional team while independently managing assigned instructional responsibilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing academy schedules, instructional needs, and operational priorities.
  • High ethical standards consistent with CLEET’s mission and values.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily within a law enforcement academy environment and requires active participation in classroom instruction, physical training, firearm tactics, practical exercises, and scenario-based training.

The position requires the physical ability to demonstrate and participate in firearms instruction and other academy skills training. Work will be conducted outdoors and in other varied environmental conditions.

Academy operations may require early mornings, evenings, extended hours, and occasional travel based upon training and operational needs. Our primary academy schedule is Monday-Thursday.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $63,000.00 annually
