The Drinking Water Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance of drinking water systems at the facility. This role oversees water monitoring, testing, reporting, and operational controls to meet all applicable federal, state, and local regulations while supporting site environmental and safety objectives.

TARGETED OUTCOMES

  • Ensure safe and compliant operation of treated well water, drinking and demin water systems
  • Maintain system reliability and performance through monitoring and optimization
  • Ensure timely response and recovery from process upsets
  • Maintain accurate tracking of system operations and reporting
  • Support environmental compliance and regulatory requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES

Regulatory Compliance 

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable drinking water regulations (e.g., EPA, state environmental agencies, and local authorities). 
  • Maintain and submit required regulatory reports accurately and on time. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory inspections and audits related to  drinking water systems. 
  • Interpret regulatory changes and implement site actions as required. 

Water Quality Monitoring & Testing 

  • Coordinate routine and non-routine sampling of drinking water systems. 
  • Review laboratory results and investigate out-of-specification conditions. 
  • Maintain records of testing, sampling schedules, and corrective actions. 
  • Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of monitoring equipment. 
  • Track demin water throughput and system performance

System Oversight & Operations 

  • Monitor and support operation of drinking water systems (e.g., wells, treatment systems, storage tanks, distribution). 
  • Partner with maintenance and operations to ensure system integrity and reliability. 
  • Identify and escalate risks related to water quality or system performance. 

Incident Management 

  • Lead response efforts for drinking water quality issues or system disruptions. 
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). 
  • Ensure timely communication to leadership and, where required, regulatory agencies. 

Documentation & Recordkeeping 

  • Maintain accurate and audit-ready documentation for all water-related activities. 
  • Ensure records retention aligns with regulatory requirements. 
  • Develop SOPs and work instructions related to drinking water management. 

Training & Awareness 

  • Provide guidance and training to site personnel on drinking water requirements and procedures. 
  • Support cross-functional understanding of compliance expectations. 

Continuous Improvement 

  • Identify opportunities to improve water quality, system reliability, and compliance processes. 
  • Support environmental sustainability initiatives related to water use and conservation. 

TEAM AND INTERACTIONS

  • Reports to: Utilities Production Manager
  • Works closely with: Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, and Engineering teams

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in environment science, chemistry, Engineering, or related field   OR

Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in industrial operations.

Experience 

  • 2–5+ years of experience in environmental compliance, water systems, utilities, or industrial operations preferred 
  • Experience working with drinking water regulations or treatment systems strongly preferred 

Certifications (Required) 

Must have an active Class C or higher Drinking Water License in the State of Florida OR

be capable of obtaining the license within 3 months of employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Strong understanding of environmental compliance and regulatory frameworks 
  • Ability to analyze data and identify trends or risks 
  • Strong documentation and recordkeeping discipline (audit-ready mindset) 
  • Effective communication skills with both hourly employees and leadership 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet regulatory deadlines 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and data tracking systems 

Working Conditions 

  • Primarily site-based role with frequent field time in plant/utility areas 
  • May require off-hours response for water system issues or regulatory incidents 
  • Must be able to wear required PPE and work in an industrial environment
