Description
At Loblaw Digital, we know that our customers expect the best from us. Whether that means building the best, most innovative online shopping experience, or designing an app that will impact the lives of people across the country, we’re up for the challenge. From our office in Downtown Toronto, we’ve created leading eCommerce experiences in the online grocery shopping, beauty, pharmacy, and apparel spaces, and we’re only just getting started.
Why is this role important?
At Loblaw Digital, we create digital experiences that help Canadians shop, access care, and manage their health. As Product Design Lead for Digital Health, you’ll help lead the team designing the next generation of those experiences across native, conversational, and agentic journeys.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Product Design, you’ll provide day-to-day design leadership across a team of six Product Designers and one Content Designer.
This is a hands-on leadership role without direct reports: you’ll set direction, manage design capacity across the portfolio, coach designers, represent the team with senior cross-functional partners, and help teams turn complex healthcare problems into simple, high-quality experiences. A key part of the mandate will be helping connect our work across Digital Health and eCommerce as Loblaw Digital develops new agentic experiences, establishing shared principles and patterns while recognizing the unique needs of healthcare.
The impact you’ll make
- Lead the Portfolio: You’ll help translate Digital Health priorities into a clear design roadmap and ensure our design resources are focused on the highest-impact opportunities. You’ll understand work across the portfolio, anticipate capacity needs, identify dependencies and gaps, and help the team navigate trade-offs as priorities change.
- Represent Design:
- You’ll represent the Digital Health Design team in key Product, Technology and stakeholder forums. You’ll ensure customer and design perspectives are part of decisions early, create alignment around experience direction, and bring decisions and context back to the team so designers can move effectively.
- Coach and enable the team
- You’ll provide designers with the context, feedback and support they need to do their best work. Through critiques, working sessions and regular coaching, you’ll help designers strengthen their craft, navigate ambiguity and grow their ability to lead complex initiatives.
- You’ll create an environment where designers have appropriate autonomy while ensuring work across the portfolio feels coherent and meets a consistently high bar.
- Shape our health and agentic experiences:
- Through leading the team, you’ll help define how agentic and conversational experiences come to life across Digital Health, partnering with teams across Health and eCommerce to develop shared principles, interaction patterns and ways of working.
- You’ll help teams determine where AI and agents genuinely improve an experience, how humans remain appropriately in control, and how these experiences should behave when context, confidence or intent is uncertain.
- You’ll partner with Product, Technology, Research and Content to frame problems, define outcomes and establish experience direction. You’ll move comfortably between strategy and execution going from journeys, service models and interaction frameworks to reviewing detailed product experiences and helping teams resolve difficult design decisions.
- Build for scale:
- You’ll look beyond individual features to identify opportunities for shared patterns, frameworks and capabilities. You’ll partner with our Design System and other design teams to reduce fragmentation and create more consistent experiences across Loblaw Digital.
- You’ll also help improve how the team works; whether through better critiques, planning, documentation, AI-enabled workflows or clearer collaboration between Design, Product and Engineering.
What you bring
- You’re an experienced product design leader who can operate across a portfolio without losing sight of the details that make an experience great.
- Experience leading design across multiple products, journeys or product domains.
- Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring Product Designers without relying on formal reporting relationships.
- Strong product and systems thinking, with the ability to connect customer needs, business priorities and technical realities.
- Experience partnering closely with Product and Engineering from problem definition through implementation and optimization.
- Strong interaction and visual design judgment and the ability to provide clear, actionable design direction.
- Experience using research, product data and business metrics to frame problems and evaluate outcomes.
- Practical experience incorporating AI into your design process and exploring AI-enabled product experiences.
- Comfort representing Design with senior stakeholders and navigating complex, ambiguous environments.
- A strong understanding of accessibility and inclusive design, including AODA requirements.
- Experience with healthcare, regulated environments, identity/authentication, privacy or care-delivery workflows is an asset.
What we’d love to see in your portfolio
We’re less interested in a particular case-study format than in understanding how you think and lead. Show us examples that demonstrate:
- Products and experiences you’ve shipped and the outcomes they achieved.
- How you framed ambiguous problems and influenced product direction.
- How you partnered with Product and Engineering to get from concept to a high-quality implementation.
- How you led design across multiple teams or interconnected experiences.
- How you created consistency through systems, patterns or frameworks.
- How you’ve used AI in your design practice or designed AI-enabled experiences.
- How you measured whether your work was successful.
- How you made other designers—or the broader Design organization—more effective.
How you’ll succeed
- You’ll succeed by giving the Digital Health Design team clarity, leverage and strong representation.
- You’ll help designers focus on the right problems, make thoughtful trade-offs across the portfolio, strengthen partnership with Product and Technology, and ensure Design has a meaningful voice in the decisions shaping our products.
- Most importantly, you’ll help us create a more connected approach to the future of digital experiences at Loblaw—bringing together what we’re learning across Health and eCommerce as we explore what agentic experiences can make possible for Canadians.
How You’ll Succeed:
At Loblaw Digital, we seek great people to continually strengthen our culture. We believe great people model our values, are authentic, build trust and make connections.
We’re able to keep innovating because our colleagues are passionate about their work and excited about the future of eCommerce.
If you have big ideas, undeniable enthusiasm, and thrive in a collaborative, creative, and diverse group, we’ll get along just fine.
Looking for a challenge? Good. Love an innovative work environment? Even better.
