Position: Sales Associate                                                                     

Location: Shamokin  Family Store, 8 E Independence Street

Availability of Position: Immediate                                                             

Schedule:  Part Time Plus - 9am-4pm, Tuesday-Friday, 26 hours per week but may vary

Reporting Relationship:  OperationsManager and/or Corps Officer  

Salary and Grade: $ 10.48 per hour; 70 Non-Exempt

Position Overview:  Support daily retail operations through direct customer engagement, register and cash handling, donation processing, and general store maintenance and, as needed, volunteer coordination.

Responsibilities

Duties:

• Greet customers and ascertain what each customer wants or needs.
• Describe merchandise and explain use, operation, and care of merchandise to customers, as needed.
• Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires.
• Compute sales prices, total purchases, and receive and process payment.
• Maintain records of sales or other business transactions.
• Complete register opening and closeout.
• Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise.
• Receive and sort incoming donations.
• Price and stock merchandise.
• Maintain a neat appearance of sales floor, stockroom and bathrooms.
• Answer phone and provide necessary information as required.
• Oversee volunteers when immediate supervisor is not in the building.
• Perform related duties as assigned by the Corps Officer.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma
• Prior experience working with store register and the public.
• Good Customer Service skills.
• Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying.
• Ability to talk to others.
• Must meet all applicable Salvation Army requirements for working with children and youth. • Meet the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153, including the PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check, as well as, as a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153. Please note, updated clearances and recurrent training are required every five years thereafter.
• Must possess an understanding of and support the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army.
