About the opportunity 

The Group Billing and Receivables function is a centralised Support Service that undertakes billing and receivable activities across Mercy Health and comprises multiple teams that support the Health Service and Health Ageing business streams.  

Reporting to the Billing & Receivables Manager, Health Services, the Collection Officer  is responsible for timely collection of outstanding debtors across multiple systems and sites in accordance with Australian healthcare funding models. This role ensures compliance with Medicare, private health insurance, and regulatory requirements while supporting revenue integrity and delivering high-quality service to patients and stakeholders.  

The role will also develop an understanding and oversight of all Collections functions performed by the Group Billings and Receivables Team whilst providing guidance, support and education to other team members.  As a centralised role, engagement will be via a common law contract rather than a Victorian health EBA.

To thrive in this role, you will have: 

• 2+ years of experience and knowledge of performing a similar Collection officer role within the hospital sector.  
• Experience with iPM billing  is highly desirable
• A high attention to detail and commitment to accurate working.   
• Well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.  
• Strictly understand privacy and collection guidelines and compliance requirements.  
• A strong customer service focus and a commitment to a culture of excellence and quality.
• Proficiency across the  Microsoft suite of products to include Excel.
