Description
The Student Success Manager is responsible for promoting student persistence, academic achievement, and overall success throughout the nursing student lifecycle. This role oversees the nursing student services team to provide proactive advising, academic support, retention interventions, and coordination of student success initiatives to help students successfully progress through their nursing program and prepare for licensure and professional practice.
Working collaboratively with faculty, clinical placement teams, academic leadership, and student support departments, the Student Success Manager serves as a trusted resource and advocate, ensuring students receive timely guidance and access to appropriate resources while maintaining compliance with institutional and nursing program standards.
Essential Job Functions
Student Success & Retention
- Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with nursing students from orientation through graduation.
- Monitor student academic progress, attendance, and engagement using institutional data and early alert systems including ATI.
- Identify at-risk students and implement individualized success plans.
- Conduct proactive outreach to students experiencing academic or personal challenges.
- Coordinate retention initiatives designed to improve persistence, progression, and graduation rates.
- Document all student interactions and interventions in the student information system.
- Resolve student complaints and concerns
Nursing Academic Advising & Student Support
- Support students in understanding nursing program expectations, clinical requirements, and professional standards.
- Collaborate with faculty regarding student progress and intervention strategies.
- Assist students with remediation planning following unsuccessful examinations or course performance concerns.
- Promote NCLEX preparation resources and student participation in licensure readiness activities.
- Encourage development of professional behaviors consistent with nursing practice.
Collaboration
- Partner with nursing faculty to identify students requiring additional support.
- Work closely with clinical education, registrar, admissions, financial aid, and student services to resolve student concerns.
- Participate in student success committees and retention planning initiatives.
- Support new student orientation and onboarding activities.
Data & Reporting
- Track student retention, progression, and intervention outcomes.
- Prepare reports on student success metrics for nursing leadership.
- Analyze trends to recommend improvements to student support services.
- Assist in accreditation reporting by providing student success data when requested.
Student Engagement
- Coordinate workshops and educational programming focused on academic success, wellness, resilience, stress management, and professional development.
- Promote student engagement through peer mentoring and student success initiatives.
- Foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment that encourages student belonging and success.
Disability Services
- Assessing the needs and accommodations required by students with disabilities.
- Developing and implementing accommodation plans based on individual student needs.
- Collaborating with faculty and staff to ensure accommodations are properly implemented
Staff Supervision
Provide training and support to new advisors
Provide supervisory support for employee-related concerns including:
-Time cards
-Onboarding and training
-Performance evaluations
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree: Preferred (preferably in Education, Business, Higher Education Leadership, Nursing, or a related field).
- Higher Education Leadership: Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in higher education administration, student services.
- Partnership Development: Proven track record of developing workforce, corporate, and community relations.
