Description
The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, analyzing, and interpreting business, technology, and cybersecurity risk metrics to provide actionable insights that support strategic decision-making and drive business performance. As part of the GBS COO – Business Insights & Analytics team in Manulife.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze trends across KRIs, KCIs, and KPIs to identify emerging risks and control weaknesses
- Provide analytical input and recommendations to enhance metric design, including leading indicators, thresholds, and signal quality, and relevance
- Develop executive level insights and narratives for risk committees and senior leadership
- Partner with Cybersecurity (GCS) and Technology teams to improve interpretation of metric results
- Support thematic reviews and challenge metrics that do not provide meaningful risk insight
- Contribute to the evolution of the technology risk metrics framework and reporting approach
- Analyze breach trends and systemic risk patterns to inform leadership decisions.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree holders with relevant work experience are welcome to apply
- 5–7 years’ experience in analytics, risk management, cybersecurity, or technology governance
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex data sets and identifying trends, patterns, and emerging risks
- Hybrid Work Arrangement: Amenability and readiness to work onsite and from home anytime (dependent on business need AND/OR current external environment/situation)
- Shift Schedule: Amenability to work on mid shift or night shift (dependent on business need)
- Proven ability to translate technical data into clear, business focused insights
- Strong understanding of risk metrics (KRIs, KCIs, KPIs), including leading and lagging indicators, with demonstrated ability to challenge and enhance metric design, thresholds, and overall signal quality to improve effectiveness
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience in supporting executive or committee-level reporting, including development of narratives and decision-focused insights is an asset
- Minimum Skills to Hire/Must Haves:
- Should have advanced knowledge on Microsoft Excel (Power Query & VBA Macro)
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge on Microsoft PowerPoint and Business Intelligence Tools such as Python, R for data querying, PowerBI, QlikView, Qlik Sense, Tableau, or any other similar tool.
- Should have hands-on experience in data analysis, data manipulation, and ETL processes skills such as collecting, transforming, and compiling raw data and generating useful reports from raw information.
- Should have demonstrated data storytelling, data visualization, and data governance skills to create compelling reports with dashboard elements like tables, charts, graphs, heat maps, and data models.
- Should have an extensive familiarity with data management concepts such as data warehousing, data mining and extraction, and predictive analytics and business reporting principles and best practices.
- Should have analytical skills to rigorously and effectively examine large quantities of data and derive useful insights from these data sets.
- Should provide mentorship to team members on best practices in reporting and dashboard development, while also leading team initiatives and strategic projects.
