The Purpose of Your Role
The Head of Income and Estate Tax Planning is a member of the leadership team within Fidelity’s Advanced Planning and Leadership Development (APLD) organization and will report to the Head of APLD. This role is accountable for defining and executing Fidelity Wealth's income and estate tax planning strategy, including the development of scalable planning capabilities, strategic partnerships, advisor enablement, and client engagement models that enhance client outcomes, advisor effectiveness, and business growth.
This leader will design and scale client engagement experiences, service models, and planning solutions that expand access to sophisticated income and estate tax planning across Fidelity Wealth.
The Head of Income and Estate Tax Planning primary responsibilities will include:
- Partner with the Head of Advanced Wealth, FPTC, and key Wealth stakeholders to define the vision, strategy, and service model for income and estate tax planning, including the evaluation of planning technology, third-party solutions, and referral partnerships.
- Provide consultation and thought leadership for the estate and income tax planning services across all Wealth client segments (Advisory Services, Wealth Management, Executive Services, PWM)
- Lead the evolution, innovation, and scaling of Fidelity's income and estate tax planning capabilities, including advisor enablement, planning technology, client-facing collateral, third-party solutions, and strategic partnerships.
- Partner with peers across Advanced Planning to integrate the client experience across all Advanced Planning specialists.
- Present progress, recommendations, and business impact to senior Wealth leadership (L1 -L3)
- Develop and manage strategic relationships with external tax, trust, estate, and accounting partners, including Ernst & Young and future providers, to expand the breadth and quality of income and estate tax planning services available to Fidelity Wealth clients.
- Recruit, hire, lead, coach, and inspire a team of Wealth Strategists and Tax Planning Specialists with a focus on income and estate tax expertise.
- Establish and oversee the operating model, standards, supervision framework, and quality management processes for the delivery of income and estate tax planning solutions across Fidelity Wealth including Investor Advisor Group (PWM and Investor Center) and Investments Services (Advisory Services & Executive Services)
- Serve as a senior advisor on complex income and estate tax planning needs, including income tax-efficient investment strategies, fiduciary accounting, liquidity events, wealth transfer planning, estate tax mitigation strategies, and changes to state and federal tax laws.
- Define and monitor key business, client, advisor, and associate outcomes, including client adoption, engagement, planning effectiveness, advisor confidence, operational efficiency, and business growth metrics related to income and estate tax planning services.
- Influence and align senior leaders across Wealth, Planning, Product, Technology, Compliance, Legal, Asset Management, and Operations to drive an integrated approach to tax-smart wealth planning and client engagement.
- Oversee and supervise the delivery of non-discretionary financial planning advice and recommendations to clients.
Travel is typically expected up to 40% of the time, depending on physical proximity to regional sites and Investor Centers.
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
- 15+ years in the public accounting/tax accounting, estate planning, and/or financial services industry dealing with High Net Worth and Ultra High-Net-Worth clients.
- Proven ability to lead, influence, and develop high-performing, client-facing teams responsible for delivering income and estate tax solutions for High Net Worth and Ultra High-Net-Worth clients.
- Deep expertise in income and estate tax planning, including integration with investment, retirement, trust, and estate strategies.
- Demonstrated success designing, launching, and scaling new client-facing planning capabilities, services, or specialized solutions within a complex financial services organization.
- Attract, hire, motivate, and lead are critical skills and responsibilities. Assessment of associate skills, placement of resources, compensation decisions, and development plan creation are all part of the day-to-day responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, supervision, risk management, and governance frameworks applicable to financial planning and advisory services.
- Experience evaluating and implementing planning technologies, digital solutions, and AI-enabled capabilities to improve client and advisor experiences.
- CPA required
- At least one of the following designations required: JD, MST, LLM in taxation, PFS designation with AICPA.
- FINRA Series 7, 66, 9 and 10 required

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.
Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
