Engagement Overview

Cambridge Spark is looking for an independent consultant to design, cost-model, build and document an updated sales commission framework and automated calculation engine for 2027.

This is a deliverable-driven project requiring end-to-end ownership. Strategic intent is set by leadership; the consultant will be fully responsible for the technical design, financial modelling, automated build and handover of the system.

Core Deliverables

1. Commission Model & Policy Design

  • Design the 2027 commission framework (rates, thresholds, accelerators, product weighting, shared-credit rules and leaver/joiner logic).
  • Model plan costs, OTE scenarios and affordability in collaboration with Finance to produce a sign-off-ready commercial proposal.
  • Draft and finalise the official commission policy document aligned with the underlying data logic.

2. Calculation Engine & Automation Build

  • Architect and build the end-to-end calculation engine using SQL views over a cloud data warehouse, custom HubSpot properties/reporting, Google Sheets, Apps Script and Make.com integrations.
  • Reduce existing manual processing by automating the data transformation and calculation flow (currently ~50 manual workbooks).
  • Ensure full auditability, attribution logic and automated reconciliation capabilities.

3. Operational Transition & Knowledge Transfer

  • Execute the interim monthly calculation and payout reconciliation cycles during the 8-week project window to validate live data accuracy.
  • Produce complete documentation, logic maps, edge-case protocols and an operational runbook for the internal team.

Target Timeline & Milestones

  • Milestone 1 (Week 2): Current process audit complete; operational cycle baseline established.
  • Milestone 2 (Week 4): Draft model design and initial financial costings delivered for review.
  • Milestone 3 (Week 6): Finalised model and cost projections signed off for 2027 budget alignment.
  • Milestone 4 (Week 8): Automated calculation engine built, tested, fully documented and handed over.

Required Specialist Capabilities

  • Deep expertise designing, modelling and executing complex incentive/commission structures (tiered accelerators, ramp, proration, clawbacks).
  • Advanced technical stack proficiency: SQL, Google Sheets/Excel, HubSpot administration, Make.com (webhooks/APIs) and Apps Script.
  • Strong commercial/financial modeling capability (cost-of-plan and scenario modeling).
  • Ability to operate autonomously and deliver outcomes from day one without an onboarding period.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with Xero, Fivetran/ELT workflows or revenue models in education/skills sectors.

Contractual Terms (Outside IR35 Requirements)

  • Deliverable Basis: Engagement is strictly based on the delivery of the specified milestones above.
  • Substitution: The service provider retains the contractual right to send a qualified substitute subject to equivalent skills and security checks.
  • Working Method: The consultant retains autonomy over how, when and where the deliverables are completed, subject to agreed project milestones and client integration points.
  • Equipment & Risk: The consultant is expected to provide their own equipment and rectify any defective deliverable work at their own expense.
