Duties, Responsibilities & Other
Regional Practice Leader – Site/Civil
The Regional Practice Leader (RPL) is a leadership position combining technical expertise with strategic vision and business management to drive the next level of growth and success of multiple site/civil practices within the KCI regional practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategic Planning:
- Lead all site/civil practices within the designated regional market and/or geography, including land development, site design, grading and drainage, stormwater management, site utilities, and permitting.
- Provide support to Practice Leaders to ensure project success and client satisfaction across public and private sector site/civil work.
- Collaborate closely with other regional practices — including survey/geomatics, transportation, environmental, geotechnical, and construction management — to utilize shared expertise and implement best practices on integrated site development projects.
- Contribute to the development and execution of growth strategies and business plans, including expansion into emerging site/civil markets such as data centers, industrial and logistics, and mixed-use development.
- Engage in collaborative efforts with other Regional Practice Leaders within the organization to drive collective success.
- Provide and foster a culture of performance excellence and collaboration.
Business Development and Client Relationship Management:
- Take ownership of business development efforts, focusing on expanding the regional site/civil practice beyond existing clients.
- Foster and nurture client relationships across developers, homebuilders, industrial and data center clients, institutional owners, municipalities, counties, and utility authorities; identify opportunities for expansion, and introduce new services or geographic markets within the realm of our technical expertise.
- Provide project and client leads to other regional practice leaders to grow their regional practices.
- Represent KCI in technical societies and community organizations such as ASCE, ACEC, ULI, NAIOP, APWA, and local development and homebuilder associations.
- Stay informed and track market trends — including land development activity, entitlement and permitting climate, and regulatory changes affecting stormwater and site design — for annual business planning and long-term strategic planning purposes.
Recruitment, Retention, and Professional Development:
- Support recruiting and retention efforts to attract and retain top site/civil talent, from entry-level designers through licensed project managers.
- Prepare and deliver timely annual employee performance appraisals for assigned staff.
- Comply with all KCI policies and procedures.
- Provide input and recommendations for technical training — including design software, stormwater modeling, and jurisdictional permitting practices — as well as management and leadership development of staff.
Financial Management and Reporting:
- Work with the Sector President, Region Executive, Service Line Leader and the CFO to develop the annual budget.
- Meet annual Performance Agreements targets.
- Deliver projects on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope and quality commitments.
- Negotiate scope, schedule, and fee estimates for large and significant site/civil projects, including multi-phase developments and projects with extended entitlement timelines.
- Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters.
Project Management and Execution:
- Monitor effective use of equipment and personnel across concurrent site/civil projects.
- Provide technical project and staff oversight, including review of site layout, grading, drainage and stormwater management design, utility design, and permit submittals.
- Serve as project manager on large or significant site/civil projects.
- Develop project-specific safety plans. Ensure compliance with all Federal, state, and local safety rules and regulations, including erosion and sediment control requirements.
- Meet regularly with clients, and with permitting and review agencies, to review project progress.

Qualifications
Education and/or Work Experience Required: • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (AEC Industry) and minimum of 10 years of related professional experience, or 14 years of equivalent professional experience.• Typically, 10+ years of progressive professional and increasing project management and organizational management experience in the AEC industry• Proven leadership skills with a track record of successful project management, business management, and team collaboration.• Strong business acumen and strategic thinking capabilities.• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels.• Demonstrated ability to drive business development efforts and achieve growth targets.• Willingness to travel as necessary to support regional initiatives
Education and/or Work Experience Preferred: • Master’s/ MBA preferred.
Certificates, licenses, and/or Registration Required:• Ability to complete the KCI PM Training and Contract Training within six months of start date.
Certificates, licenses, and/or Registration Preferred:• Professional license or certification within the field of expertise
