As a member of the CAD/CAM team, you will be an active contributor to the factory volume ramp and standardization efforts.
Job Description
The Sandbox: State-of-the-Art Tech & Hardware
You’ll have access to an industry-leading hardware and software stack:
- CAD/CAM Suite: Siemens NX (5-Axis Continuous Milling, VTL, VBM, HBM, Multi-Axis EDM, etc).
- Digital Twin & Virtual Prototyping: 100% simulation coverage utilizing Vericut and Siemens Run My Virtual Machine.
- Next-Gen Hardware: Custom 10-ton multi-function grinding machines, massive 5-axis mills, and large VTLs/VBMs up to 2.5m.
- Advanced Diagnostics & Automation: Closed-Loop Machining (CLM), custom Renishaw probing routines, Caron Engineering TMaC, and Modal Analysis (tap testing) hardware/software.
What you’ll do
- Process Architecture: Design and optimize high-efficiency CNC programs for complex multi-axis setups cutting high-temperature superalloys (Inconel, Rene, and exotic nickels).
- Virtual Prototyping: Use digital twin software (Vericut) to validate code and optimize toolpaths in a risk-free virtual environment before hitting the shop floor.
- Smart Machining: Develop adaptive probing routines, macro programming, and closed-loop machining processes to make complex setups smooth and predictable.
- New Equipment Integration: Partner with Manufacturing Engineers and shop-floor teams to commission new multi-million-dollar machine tools and establish baseline machining standards.
- Cross-Functional Teamwork: Act as a technical mentor and partner on the floor—troubleshooting setups, proving out first-piece components, and sharing knowledge across the team.
- Support large VTL, VMB, 5-axis mill, multi-purpose turn/grind machines up to 2.5m
- Generate and maintain CNC programs utilizing NX-CAM or other software. This could include multi-axis milling, turning, grinding and/or EDM.
- Create programs following standards and qualified machining parameters
- Provide CNC related support to M.E. (Manufacturing Engineer) and provide operator training during new / rebuilt machine startup and / or process improvements.
- Provide daily operator support in the form of CNC programming and troubleshooting support to the shop floor.
- Support and implement tooling & fixturing requirements associated with CNC machine tools.
- Generate and support workstation instructions (methods) for CNC related issues.
- Initiate and lead process improvement projects to improve safety, quality, cost and delivery.
- Provide effective communication to appropriate team members when needed.
- Work effectively as an individual and in a team-based environment in a matrixed organization.
- Work effectively in a fast-paced environment while embracing and driving positive change inside and outside the organization when appropriate.
What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s Degree, or Machinist Apprentice (or similar) graduate with 3 years of experience with graphical based CAM System CNC Programming [OR] High School Degree w/6 years of experience with graphical based CAM System CNC Programming.
What will make you stand out
- Experience creating 5-axis CNC programs using a CAM (preferably NX) system.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with high-level machine tool controls including sub-routine(macro), Renishaw probing routine, and variable based programming, as well as CLM (closed loop machining)
- Significant "hands-on" background as a machinist, with the ability to personally setup and prove out complex first-piece programs.
- A track record of managing tight tolerances on large-format equipment (VTLs/VBMs/etc up to 2.5m) where part deflection, work hardening, and thermal stability are critical factors
- Extensive experience machining nickel-based superalloys (Inconel, Rene, Hastelloy, etc.) common in Heavy Duty Gas Turbine (HDGT) or Aerospace industry
- Strong problem solving and organization skills, with above average shop math skills in geometry and trigonometry.
- Experience using Vericut (preferred) or other CNC verification/machine simulation software.
- Strong familiarity with multiple machine controls including Fanuc, Haas, Okuma, & Siemens
- Demonstrated proficiency interpreting drawing requirements.
- Ability to multi-task and productively manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Experience machining high temperature superalloys found in HDGT or Aerospace components.
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
