We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our rehabilitation team. Working alongside Occupational Therapists and an interdisciplinary care team, you'll provide individualized therapy interventions that support resident goals, promote functional independence, and enhance quality of life.

 

West Roxbury Health & Rehabilitation Center is a 76-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation community in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, providing Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care, along with specialized support including hospice care and respite care. Our interdisciplinary team provides personalized nursing care, rehabilitation services, and clinical support while creating a welcoming environment centered on resident dignity, comfort, and quality of life.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will work under the direction of an Occupational Therapist to provide skilled occupational therapy interventions designed to support resident goals, improve functional abilities, and promote independence.

COTA Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled occupational therapy treatments according to established plans of care and within the scope of practice
• Assist the Occupational Therapist in implementing individualized treatment programs based on resident needs and goals
• Provide individual and group therapy interventions as appropriate
• Help residents improve their ability to participate in activities of daily living, including dressing, grooming, eating, toileting, and other functional tasks
• Assist residents with improving motor skills, coordination, strength, balance, cognition, and functional abilities
• Incorporate meaningful therapeutic activities that support resident goals and encourage independence
• Monitor resident response to treatment and communicate progress, concerns, and changes to the Occupational Therapist and appropriate members of the care team
• Educate residents, families, and caregivers on therapeutic techniques, safety strategies, and recommendations that support continued progress
• Participate in resident care planning, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary team meetings
• Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal regulations
• Maintain treatment records and other required departmental documentation
• Assist with recommending and implementing adaptive equipment and compensatory strategies as directed by the Occupational Therapist
• Maintain a safe, organized, and positive therapy environment
• Participate in continuing education, in-service training, and departmental meetings
• Support quality improvement initiatives and departmental goals
• Maintain resident confidentiality, privacy, and dignity in all interactions
• Follow all safety, infection control, and regulatory standards
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program required
• Current Massachusetts licensure or certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant required
• Current CPR/BLS certification required
• Long-term care, skilled nursing, or rehabilitation experience preferred
• Experience working with geriatric and subacute rehabilitation populations preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to follow individualized treatment plans and work within the established scope of practice
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Occupational Therapists, residents, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
• Strong organizational and documentation skills
• Compassionate, dependable, and resident-focused approach to care
• Passion for helping residents achieve meaningful functional goals
• Ability to meet applicable state and federal regulatory requirements
• This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors. In order to ensure a safe work environment for residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors of the Company, and to permit effective communication with residents, coworkers, visitors, and supervisors, this position requires that the employee be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or more advanced level.
