Heavy Equipment Transport Driver

Overview

The Heavy Equipment Transport Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of construction materials, equipment, and supplies to and from job sites in compliance with company standards and all applicable FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT regulations. This role ensures timely delivery, vehicle safety, and regulatory compliance to support construction operations. Knowledge of Load Securement and Experience transporting heavy, oversized equipment. 5 + years of commercial driving experience, preferably in construction. This is a safety sensitive position.

Responsibilities

· Safely operate commercial vehicles including dump trucks, flatbeds, water trucks, and lowboy trailers.

· Transport materials, aggregates, and heavy equipment to various job sites.

· Perform mandatory pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections in accordance with FMCSA regulations (49 CFR Part 396).

· Ensure all cargo is properly secured and compliant with FMCSA cargo securement rules (49 CFR Part 393).

· Maintain accurate Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) and report defects promptly.

· Comply with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations (49 CFR Part 395), including use of Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs).

· Maintain accurate delivery tickets, logs, and mileage records.

· Follow all DOT and FMCSA safety standards, as well as company safety policies.

· Communicate with dispatch, supervisors, and job site personnel to ensure delivery schedules are met.

· Assist with loading/unloading and perform basic labor duties as required.

· Ensure vehicles remain clean, fueled, and in safe working condition.

· Must be able to perform basic operation of Heavy Equipment to load on to trailers.

· Must be able to perform basic maintenance and report mechanic issues promptly.

Qualifications

· Valid CDL Class A or B with required endorsements (e.g., tanker, doubles/triples if applicable).

· Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) meeting FMCSA and company standards.

· 5 + years of commercial driving experience, preferably in construction.

· Knowledge of DOT/FMSCA rules and construction transport procedures.

· Ability to operate ELD systems and mobile communication tools.

· Strong understanding of safety practices and hazard awareness

· Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs

· Frequent sitting, standing, climbing, bending, and reaching.

· Ability to enter/exit vehicles and equipment multiple times per shift.

· Must pass DOT physical and drug screening requirements. (49 CFR Part 40)

· Outdoor construction environments with exposure to changing weather conditions.

· Exposure to dust, noise, and heavy equipment operations.

· Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime.

· Travel between multiple job sites required. (Overnight stays will be required)
